I came here straight from Union Station, after a 20-hr train ride, trundling my suitcase through the rapidly changing NOMA neighborhood. It waa worth the mile walk. The atmosphere is like an urban lodge: dark wood grains and exposed brick are puncuated by ornate light fictures and pops of color from interesting political-style posters and flags. On one wall is a row of secretive booths, where you can hunker and gnosh while a brooding oil painted statesman looks on. It was a Lenten Friday, so i was a good Catholic and ordered the salmon collar. What a dish. I was prepared for a small medallion of meat. Instead the waiter brought a huge collar of perfectly grilled fish big enough to fit Mike Tyson's neck inside. The fish was so succulent - firm in the middle, butter soft around the edges - that my inner feline manifested itself, and I picked the carcass clean. Ive had slivers of much less flavorful fish cost a lot more. The waiter told me this is one of the restaurant's most popular dishes, and it's featured across dinner and lunch menus, plus served with a side of eggs and hollandaise for weekend brunch. My friend who steered me here always pairs his collar with a biscuit, which he described as decadently delish. As if I needed more reason to return. I dont usually spend alot of time talking about service, but my hipster waiter was particularly cordial, asking me about my trip and pouring me a cup of coffee on the house bc I'd said I was worn out from my travels. Those little moments of hospitality go a long way with me, even though the salmon was more than fulfilling on its own.
St. Anselm is an American steakhouse/tavern that serves delicious steaks and comforting dishes in a relaxed setting. THE MEAL 🥮 Biscuits & Pimento: These were amazing. The biscuits have a crisp, crunchy crust protecting a decadent, soft crumb. The pimento cheese adds great creaminess, but, the side of salted Vermont butter elevated them even further. 🥩 The Steaks: • Butcher's Cut (Hanger Steak): Served medium rare with an excellent sear. Tender, juicy, and full of flavor. • New York Strip: Robust beef flavor with perfectly seared fat. • Lamb Leg: Cooked nicely to medium rare, though the pickled pepper relish was a bit overpowering. Tip: We used the onion cream sauce from the Baby Carrots dish to balance the relish. SIDES & SWEETS • Savory: The Baby Carrots (on that tasty onion cream) and the Thick-Cut Grilled Bacon were standouts. The bacon had a nice richness without being too heavy. • Sweet: Do not skip dessert. The Carrot Cake was incredibly moist, and the Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream was a memorable finish. SERVICE ⭐ Special thanks to Abi for the warm, professional service. She understood the food and wine menu inside and out. OVERALL A great place for a business dinner or special date night. St. Anselm shares high-quality food and service at a reasonable price.
This was my second time dining at here, and they continue to impress. My first visit was so great that I knew I had to come back to celebrate my birthday with my family—and the experience was just as amazing. They are incredibly consistent. Our server Ami was fantastic and provided excellent service throughout the night. I ordered the NY strip, but we shared dishes around the table so I was able to try a bit of everything. Everything we tasted was outstanding. The highlight of the night was definitely the biscuits—they are absolutely incredible and a must-order. The cocktails were also great and paired perfectly with the meal. Overall, everything from the food to the service was exceptional. I’ll definitely be back again and sharing my experience with others.
This place was packed on a Thursday night with good reason— the steaks were superb. We ordered the 32-oz Prime T-Bone, the 16-oz Ribeye, and the Pork Porterhouse and they were beautiful— perfectly grilled and succulent and flavorful. You’ll also be glad to get the Baby Iceberg salad for starters as it came with heritage bacon that’s so good, as well as the especially tasty Crispy Pig Head Croquette. Overall a most happy meal.
Delicious food and awesome service. The Brussels sprouts with the Caesar dressing was probably my favorite thing I’ve ever eaten. The oyster special was also good! Only thing meh would have been the mashed potatoes but I prefer creamy ones so that’s not a surprise!! The biscuits…. WOW
