Looking for an interactive, unique, amazing museum?? Look no further! As a museum enthusiast this one checked off all my boxes. From interesting exhibitions, a great gift shop and fun for all ages it is one to add to your list. It was incredibly engaging and was super fun to learn about different languages and how words came to be. I recommend starting on the third floor and working your way downstairs, make sure to take your time and it is worth waiting your turn for multiple interactive stations. We booked our free tickets in advance to reserve our time slot but they accept walk ins. Don’t be afraid to use the mics for karaoke! And don’t miss the free photo booth!📸

Planet Word masterfully blends education with fun interactive entertainment. Visitors leave with a wealth of fascinating insights and a deeper understanding of how human language has evolved. The museum debunks common misconceptions—like the myth of a single universal sign language when there are actually around 300 distinct sign languages worldwide. It also explores how English, while rooted in Germanic, French, Viking, and Latin languages, continues to evolve today through influences like international cuisine, portmanteaus, and social media. This place shows how words are not only for communication but how they’re used for joking, singing, inspiring, and a tool to escape from an escape room (Lexicon Lane puzzle).

This was a pretty interesting museum with a pay as you wish admission fee. There were a lot of exhibits to check out and I enjoyed the ones where you could record yourself. My favorite one was the recording room where you could record yourself saying a famous speech. There was also a photo booth where you get assigned a word and then pose according to it which was neat. The library room where they had scenes from various books displayed would only light up if you read the line from the book which was so cool, I wonder what the tech behind that is. The karaoke room was also quite popular though I wish they had a bigger selection of songs to choose from. This was a very enjoyable museum to check out and fun for both adults and kids! We went during the weekday and there were a few groups of kids on field trips there so rooms/exhibits got crowded really quickly.

For book and language lovers, this place is for you. We came with kids, and both the children and adults enjoyed it. Every floor offers different experiences related to books, languages, and communication. We learned a lot from the interactive stations, which offer plenty to explore. You’ll always find something to do and won’t have to wait long. We spent 1.30 hour there. We could stay longer if kids didn't get hungry. We parked on the street, and parking is free on weekends and holidays.

I came to D.C. without expecting to come here but I am ever so glad that I did. Planet word is a great interactive place where words, curiosity, and fun come to life. There are 3 floors, each with their own unique exhibit. There were places you could listen to the history of words, do karaoke with friends, and even a joke game station. This museum was one of my highlights of my trip to D.C. I would definitely spend more time here of I had it and look forward to coming back in the future.
