I am so glad I made the trip to this museum. Having been to DC a number of times and seen most of the most common sites. I wanted to get off the beaten path and visit someplace new. The architecture of the building alone is worth a trip, but the art inside will really leave indelible memories of the creativity of the artists and the meaning of the pieces. Please note that the outdoor sculpture area is closed for renovations at the time being, but there’s still plenty to see inside the building. I think my favorite exhibit was Banksy and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Please see the pictures I attached to see how Banksy evolved and built on one of Jean-Michel’s original pieces. This is such an amazing example of how Art can absolutely shake your worldview and open your eyes to the experience of others. There are so many memorable and beautiful pieces here. Please check out this museum. The staff was extremely friendly as well and really helped to guide my visit and make sure I didn’t miss the best of the best.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Hirshhorn is easily one of the coolest museums in D.C. if you’re into modern and contemporary art! The iconic "doughnut" building itself is a vibe, and since it’s part of the Smithsonian, admission is completely free for everyone. Highlights of the Visit: The Exhibits: The art here is bold, creative, and "weird" in the absolute best way. When I visited, the Basquiat × Banksy exhibition was featured—it was incredible to see their works in dialogue together. There is so much color, space, and wonder in every gallery. Wall-to-Wall Art: My personal favorite was the massive, full wall-to-wall paintings. Installations like Mark Bradford’s Pickett’s Charge (which wraps around the entire inner circle) or the immersive text-filled rooms by Barbara Kruger really make you feel like you're part of the art. Permanent Collection: They have an impressive roster of heavy hitters. You can find works by Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, and Wassily Kandinsky, just to name a few. The Atmosphere: The staff were super friendly and helpful. Despite the cutting-edge art, the museum feels very accessible and welcoming. Summary: Whether you are an art aficionado or just looking for a super "Instagrammable" spot on the National Mall, this is a must-visit. It’s bold, super creative, and totally free!
I was as impressed with the building as I was with the exhibitions! The museum shop has the cutest little finds. This is easily one of my favourite Smithsonian museums.
Hirshhorn Museum is a fine art museum at Washington DC mall. The entrance is free for everyone. It has some permanent collections from famed artists like Pablo Picasso, George O'Keffe, Jackson Pollock, Vassili Kandinski, to mention a few. In addition, it displays temporary exhibitions. The museum also has a good collection of sculpture from Rodin to Henry Moore. The museum has several floors circling around a central cirvular void. The museum store is a nice one too.
It features beautiful modern art exhibits, as well as a coffee shop on the first floor. There is also a living room on the second floor that offers amazing views.
