Had the chance to visit Hank’s Oyster Bar Wharf and it was one of those dining experiences that felt both elevated and genuinely welcoming. Nestled along the intimate atmosphere of The Wharf in Washington, D.C., the restaurant blends fresh coastal flavors with a warm neighborhood feel that makes you want to stay awhile with a small cup of goldfish (ask about the sentiment) you won’t be disappointed. From the incredible mussels loaded with flavor, to the perfectly crispy fish and chips, and those Salty Wolfe Oysters didn’t even make it to the photo because they were that too delicious to wait and an espresso martini that absolutely delivered — every part of the meal was memorable. The fresh bread soaking up the broth was a meal in itself. What made the experience even more meaningful was learning the story behind the restaurant. As a family-owned establishment founded by a woman from a minority community and a strong supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, you can truly feel the inclusivity and heart behind the brand. In a world where representation matters, it was refreshing and inspiring to see a welcoming Latina woman in a management position creating such an inviting environment for guests. A huge shoutout to Taylor J., our waiter, who provided exceptional service from start to finish. Attentive, personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind — the kind of service that turns a great meal into a great experience. If you’re in D.C. and looking for amazing seafood, craft cocktails, and a restaurant that leads with both quality and community, Hank’s Oyster Bar at The Wharf is absolutely worth the visit.
Had a fabulous brunch of oysters and drinks. A post birthday celebration. Great food, drinks and most importantly great service! Our waiter Mike was incredible from the selection of oysters to the drink selection. He even learned it was my birthday and gave me surprise key lime pie birthday dessert! A fabulous afternoon.
Daughter and I dined at Hank's Oyster Bar for afternoon lunch. Brandon was our server and he made the entire experience enjoyable. The views of the wharf on the Potomac was amazing! The food was delicious, however, I have to point out the the bronzini filet as a standout. The entire filet meal was flavorful. The bbq oysters wasn't my favorite but they're decent. Of course raw oysters on the half shell with a bit of horseradish hit the spot. Overall, what an excellent experience. Looking forward to returning! Highly recommend.
My husband and I decided to dine here for lunch and I must say overall, it was an interesting experience. The service was great, there was no wait time to be seated, but there was a bit of a wait to be serviced. It was busy so I understand. We ended up having the best server Brandon! He was extremely polite, had such great customer service, and made sure we were well taken care of. Now to the food...I ordered the fish sandwich with fries and hush puppies as an appetizer. The hush puppies were good but the fish sandwich was not. It was the most bland fish I ever had. I had to use hot sauce and tartar sauce just to be able to eat it because I was hungry. The other bit of sauce they put on there does not help much. If definitely recommend seasoning the batter. The fries were good though. Now, I was seated facing the area where the servers pick up the food to deliver to the tables and I must say that I observed some very concerning and questionable things regarding proper food handling by one of the staff members. Also the time some of the food sat there before being picked up was concerning. I did mention the concerns to our server. I'm not sure if I'd want to dine here again due to that and the lack of flavor in the food.
The fish and chips were very delicious, and the garlic tartar sauce was absolutely amazing. Our server was kind enough to bring us extra because we loved it so much. The lobster bisque, however, was disappointing, it tasted like it came straight out of a can. It was very watery and lacked any real lobster flavor.
