Pro: It was closer to Eastern Markets metro.. Walkin 5 minutes from the metro. It has a park nearby and also wharf is 20 min walk which is a great place to hangout. Wifi strength was good, bathroom amd showers were clean. They gave a tour of house which is nice. You can cook your own food, heat so kitchen is available. Luggage storage facility is available where they keep even after checkout for free. The 2 people that I met who manage the property are well spoken and friendly. Free breakfast pancake only. Small Patio is there at roof top which is nice.manage Cons: 3 unisex washroom for entire house and 2 shower for men/2 for women in a house full of Approximately 20 dorm beds. That is way too less so you might have to wait for sometime to get your turn. Doesn't provide shower gels and shampoo so bring on your own. Locker are very small so you could lock only your backpack Beds/mattresses are not very good quality..it makes a lot of noise while twist and turns. 72$ deserves a nice mattress to sleep atleast.
This was the worst and most unsafe experience I have ever had at a hotel/hostel. Duo Nomad and Duo Housing are managed by the same company, so expect the same type of treatment in both. On September 26, 2024, I was forcibly removed from Duo Nomad with police present — even though I had broken no rules. Here is exactly what happened: • The front desk employee approached me and asked if I was extending my stay or checking out. He already knew I was a guest. Then he demanded my full name, and when I only gave my first name, he left. • He came back aggressively, verbally insulting me and claiming he was “the owner,” when in reality he was only the receptionist. At no point did he show me any employee ID — for all I knew, he could have been just another guest. • I showed him my Booking.com reservation, with confirmation number and PIN, proving I was a legitimate guest. Despite this, he continued harassing me, followed me toward my room, and kept insulting me. • I called Booking.com to get help, but he yelled over me repeatedly, making it impossible to hear the agent clearly. When he realized I was ignoring him and talking to Booking instead, he threatened to call the police to have me removed. • He actually called the police, who arrived and told me that “this is private property and if management wants you out, you’re out.” I was forced to leave, even though neither the staff nor the police could point to any rule I had broken. The manager on duty later confirmed that the employee did not have to show me any ID, but still insisted I should hand over mine. Management clearly protects abusive behavior from staff instead of protecting guests. I strongly advise against booking here. If something goes wrong, you will have no protection — staff can insult you, harass you, and even call the police on you without cause. Unsafe and unacceptable.
I went here about 3 years ago now. Staff was a dream. I barely remember the names. Helen was at the front. They were intensely rude but also really good vibes, I liked them all a lot. The stay is okay it’s just a hostel but really the staff is what leaves a lasting impression. Good people in what I’m assuming is a bit of a risky work environment considering you’re living amongst strangers 24/7. A shorter guy there called me Kenny from South Park. Very great staff, I wonder if they’ve changed (probably have) since but if they haven’t, doubt they’ll remember me but I would go again just to kick it with them again. Would recommend here 2-3 nights maximum
Amazing stay at Duo Nomad. Was received by Maria on my first night at she stuck to procedure when it came to verifying my identify. Was caught off guard cause I did not have my passport with me as I was visiting from another state. But this made me feel safer. The rooms were really nice and equipped with an AC. The beds were bunk beds and were pretty comfy to sleep in. Breakfast is provided here which was pancakes with lemonade and coffee as your beverage! Surely a delight to wake up to. It is walking distance to many food places and the big guy who ran the dorm was really helpful and friendly in giving recommendations on places to eat and visit. Surely a cost saver and really worth the price!
Overall I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. The building IS on the older side, and the hallways a bit narrow, but it was cozy and I had a comfortable bed at night which is ultimately what I wanted from a hostel. If I wanted luxury I would’ve gotten a more expensive, fancier hotel room. Nonetheless, the staff was friendly and helpful. Kenny was accommodating and took the time to explain the metro bus system to me. The pancakes were good and I met some cool people staying at the hostel too. A good location, near many shops and restaurants. I’d stay there again if I ever go back to DC.
