We visited Schonbrunn Palace on a Wednesday and had tickets for the first time slot in the morning. The Palace Tour was good and all the employees were helpful and kind. The tour group sizes moving through were a bit annoying at times as you couldn't get around and they just kept coming, but we just tried to rush when we saw them coming to stay ahead of them. We were glad we went early, but the time we left it was fairly congested with them. The audio guides we were given were the best we've ever gotten at a museum, very great quality and nice to have the room pictures and numbers on the screen, we liked those a lot. The exterior was beautiful, unfortunately it was very windy and rainy when we went otherwise we would have spent more time outdoors, but we did make the walk to the Gloriette. The fountain that lies in front at the bottom of the hill is magnificent, even better then Italy's fountains if you ask me. I liked the path that went behind the waterfall, that was nice. It was well maintained and paths were clear. Overall we had a great day there! The only suggestion would be to try to have tour groups not start until 1030am everyday or something so that people who wanted to avoid them could come earlier.
Schönbrunn Palace is an absolute must-visit in Vienna. The palace is breathtaking — rich in history, architecture, and imperial elegance. Every room tells a story, and the audio-guided tour is very well organized and informative, allowing you to truly appreciate the legacy of the Habsburg dynasty. The gardens are just as impressive as the palace itself: beautifully maintained, expansive, and perfect for a relaxing walk with stunning views of the city from the Gloriette. I highly recommend taking your time to explore both the interior and the grounds. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply enjoying a beautiful setting, Schönbrunn Palace offers a memorable and enriching experience.
You can explore the gardens for free, no ticket needed and they’re already beautiful and worth the visit. Only buy a ticket if you want to see the inside of the palace. The self‑guided audio tour covers about 30 rooms and they give you a phone with explanations for each one. Check the photos if the interior interests you, otherwise the outside experience alone is great
This is a beautiful palace which has lot to see even if you do not plan to enter inside the palace. There is an entry ticket if you plan to go inside but the surroundings are free to explore. It has beautiful gardens, a lot of statues and beautiful landscapes. Do not miss the fountain located at the end on backside of the palace. There is oldest zoo as well which has separate ticket.
An impressive palace and gardens that was once the summer residence of the Habsburgs. During our visit to Vienna we hadn’t planned to visit Schönbrunn, but we ended up wandering from the centre of the city just to take a quick look (about 5.5km but there are plenty of public transport options). We’re very glad we did as even though we arrived too late to venture inside, the outside is stunning. The gardens are well worth a wander too, as walking around the palace and grounds is free. The gardens also provide a beautiful view out across Vienna, giving a new aspect to the city. So even if you don’t intend to visit the interior of the palace, it’s still worth a look. That said, we would definitely visit Schönbrunn on a future trip to Vienna to see the palace proper as the interior does look amazing.
