An outstanding Baroque church featuring a massive dome and twin columns modeled on Trajan's Column in Rome.
- Good to know
- An indoor elevator takes visitors up into the dome to view the frescoes up close.

Karlskirche is an absolutely breathtaking masterpiece and one of the most impressive landmarks in Vienna. Its grand Baroque architecture, with the majestic dome and striking columns, creates a powerful and unforgettable first impression. As you approach the church, every detail reveals incredible artistry — from the sculptural elements to the perfectly balanced proportions. Inside, the atmosphere is just as remarkable: calm, luminous, and deeply inspiring. The frescoes and interior decorations draw your взгляд upward, creating a sense of awe and quiet admiration. What makes Karlskirche truly special is the way it combines architectural grandeur with a feeling of peace and reflection. Whether you admire it from the outside or step inside to explore, it leaves a lasting emotional impression. A truly magnificent place and an essential highlight of Vienna.
We enjoyed the Vivaldi concert on 5/5 evening. The view of Charles Church ( Karlskirche) was astonishing with the reflection. To the right is the TU Wien ( Vienna Technical University) where I was a PhD student 30+ years ago. It brings the nice memory and a renewed understanding. The church inside is so enlightening! Highly recommend to listen to the concert in this church.
A beautiful church...it felt like in Rome. We attended the Vicaldi concert on Saturday which was brilliant! We also attended a beautiful mass on Sunday morning because i needed to see more of the church. This church didn't feel like a museum as the congregation were alive....in their faith.
A truly beautiful and inspiring place in Vienna. St. Charles’s Church combines stunning architecture with a peaceful atmosphere that allows you to slow down and reflect. The details inside and outside are impressive, and the entire space feels both powerful and calming at the same time. Definitely worth visiting — whether for the art, the history, or a quiet moment for yourself. ✨
While many other stunning churches in Vienna is free for entry, this one costs 9.5euro. You can buy ticket online. Or if you go early in the morning, you don’t need a ticket, I heard. You can climb to the balcony, though the view isn’t particularly stunning. It seems to be very cold inside because the staff sitting inside wore a sleeping bag.
