What a beautiful church, we went on a tour and we saw the St. Mark's Basilica & Doge's Palace at the same time. This building was phenomenal on how it looked on inside. You could just feel the history and the energy in there when you walk in. We ended up purchasing her tickets through GetYourGuide, which is very convenient.

Beautiful place and a must-see if you’re visiting Venice. We got the standard tickets which meant you saw the ground floor bits, but there were at least two other extra bolt ons you could have bought to see more. The outside is more impressive than the inside.

St. Mark’s Basilica – Iconic History with Hidden Details St. Mark’s Basilica presents a layered history, founded in 832 and rebuilt from 1063 onward. Its Italo-Byzantine structure, combined with Gothic and Romanesque elements, creates a distinctive appearance. The five domes are a notable feature, uncommon among Western European churches. Inside, around 8,000 square meters of mosaics cover walls and ceilings. Gold leaf embedded in glass reflects light at different angles, creating a soft, shimmering effect throughout the day. Architectural details, including representations of the Twelve Apostles, are integrated into the structure rather than displayed as separate works.

The basilica was… phenomenal. One word came to my mind consistently and that was “reverent”. The atmosphere inside is one of pure reverence and awe. I recommend buying a full pass to view everything. The body of St. Mark is a MUST see, the upstairs portion is a museum of artifacts that hadn’t been viewed by the public in several hundred years, the architecture itself is incredible, and the rooftop view overlooking the square is just incredible. Being so close to the body of an apostle is.. an experience to be sure

St. Mark’s Basilica is truly a masterpiece — I’ve never seen anything like it in my life! The moment we stepped into the square and saw its golden domes and intricate mosaics, it felt like we were entering a different world. The architecture is unbelievably detailed, with a mix of Byzantine and Venetian styles that make it stand out from any other church. Inside, the shimmering gold ceilings and sacred atmosphere gave us chills — it genuinely felt like a glimpse of heaven. A must-visit in Venice, this basilica is spiritual, majestic, and unforgettable. Absolutely breathtaking in every way!
