Generator is such a great group. The Venice location is clean, and the staff are fantastic. First note: the hostels on Guidecca. You can see St. Marks from the windows but getting there is a project. The boat from the airport drops you on the other side of the island. Get comfortable with the vaporetto, you’ll be using it a lot. Love this place, and would stay here a million times.

A pretty good hostel, with comfortable beds, decent facilities and an excellent bar. The nearby pier has great boat connections to important locations in Venice, and there's some good restaurants close by. What holds it back from a five is that it feels a bit impersonal and corporate - it's harder to make social connections here than in many other hostels, and it doesn't quite manage to pull of that delightful, weird, welcoming DIY vibe that truly great hostels have.

Having stayed in various hostels around the world, I have to admit that Generator Venice wasn’t the best among them. The price for accommodation alone is reasonable, but almost everything else costs extra: towels, padlocks, hairdryers, and even luggage storage. Not to mention the cost of getting to Giudecca. After all these additional expenses (including luggage storage, one breakfast, and vaporetto tickets), my €53.50 stay ended up costing a total of €103.05. For a female-only dorm, there is only one option: a 10-person room. There was only one bathroom in the room, with a couple more located in the hallway. The air conditioning in the room was not working, so we had to keep the windows open, which raised the noise level to an unbearable level. Without earplugs, it would have been quite impossible to sleep. Despite all these complaints, I still want to leave a big thank you to the staff. They were all friendly and willing to answer my questions. The design of the common areas was also very nice.

The hostel is in the perfect location. Just a short boat ride to Piazza San Marco, but in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. A convenient place to recover or retreat to if the crowds get overwhelming. The hostel staff were very accommodating as well. Many people that stay here will likely have an early check in or check -out. The staff always have someone at the front desk, and provided very helpful advice for getting to and from the airport at odd hours.

We have gone with a group of 100 students and 5 teachers. The place is really nice and the lobby is lovely. However, in each floor there're 2 public showers only for big rooms where there're 12 students in each room, for example. So, in each floor you should have more public showers. Moreover, the breakfast is really poor. Milk, horrible juice, coffee, English tea., water, dry bread, one croissant, jam, butter, slices of cheese, ham and old apples. It was really poor and closing before 10:00. The breakfast could be renovated including more things and trying to close at 10:00 or a bit later. So, more public showers, better breakfast.
