If you want to experience the best of Granville Island, The Sandbar is absolutely it. The restaurant sits right by the water, offering stunning, unobstructed views of the marina and city skyline - especially at sunset. The energy here is unmatched; it’s lively, welcoming, and beautifully laid out across multiple levels. As for the food, everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, with the seafood being a clear highlight. Combined with the friendly, attentive service, it made for a truly memorable meal. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this place is a must-try. We will definitely be back!
Celebrated our anniversary at Sandbar and had a solid seafood experience. The oyster platter was fresh and well-prepared, definitely good quality seafood if that’s what you’re after. Our server was fantastic. He brought genuine, friendly energy that made us feel like we were dining with a friend rather than being served. That kind of hospitality makes a difference. The restaurant also surprised us with a complimentary chocolate dessert when they saw our anniversary reservation, a nice gesture that showed they care. Small note: the hostess briefly mixed up our anniversary with a birthday when greeting us, but it didn’t detract from the night. Atmosphere is straightforward, casual seafood restaurant vibes on the water, nothing overly fancy. Fair pricing for what you get. If you’re craving fresh seafood with good service, Sandbar delivers. Definitely worth a visit if seafood is your thing.
A prime location on Granville Island, so recommend getting a table by the window or on the rooftop. We were seated close to the live piano music and found it difficult to carry out a conversation. We tried the Sunday night seafood boil and while it was well portioned, the seafood didn’t taste super fresh. It was busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon and the service was not as attentive. Might want to try their happy hour instead of dinner next time.
TLDR: Worst of the Sequoia resturants, will not be returning (updated). Visited around 4pm on Sept 22, 2025. The good: The sashimi was great, signature wok squid was good, I thought the crab and artichoke dip was okay but friends thought otherwise. I forgot what the dessert was but it's a coconut caramel seasonal cake of sorts, really enjoyed that. General food presentation is okay too. The interior looks nice and the outdoor seating seabreeze is pretty good although the chairs weren't the most comfortable. The bad: Sesame Crusted Albacore Tuna was dry and flavourless, as was the roasted mushrooms. Oysters are not cleaned properly (though I'm not sure if they normally are supposed to be, sand aside it tastes okay, I'm no connoisseur). On the theme of sand, our clam chowder also had sand in it (had 3 sips, got sand twice), the server said they'd strike it from our bill. We weren't given a chance to order a replacement or anything else before they took it and left. The server was friendly and conversational but we'd prefer a good food focused dining experience above all else. The ugly: We had another event to run to after so we didn't check the bill at the end, but upon later review, it turns out we were charged for the clam chowder anyway. Update: The manager reached out and refunded the clam chowder. More refunds were offered for some other dishes but were not taken since they were finished.
Super nice view! We had a table facing the bay and the atmosphere was really lovely. The service was super friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was good overall, and while the oysters were just okay, my flatbread with cheese and mushrooms was really delicious.
