The best thing about Jericho Beach Hostel was AJ! She was so friendly, knowledgeable, quick, and kind. The hostel is good; however, as a mature ( ok, old) traveler all the stairs are a problem. AJ offered to help with the luggage (without being asked)! Which was a great relief! The rooms are comfortable and every area seems well maintained and CLEAN. The location is lovely; but, it is a little unhandy for sightseeing (for anyone with a mobility issue), in that there is an uphill walk to the bus stop. There is a marina about a five minute walk across a park. It features good food and great service (perhaps a little pricey for most budget travelers). There is an elevator up to the cafe, where the view is a picture post card taken in real time. Back at the hostel, the bathrooms do not require key entry; which could be uncomfortable for some. Jericho is the only hostel I have been to in many years to have both showers AND bathtubs! There several comfortable seating areas throughout the hostel and during our stay it easy to find a quiet area to relax. So, while there were also great opportunities to socialize it was really the best of both worlds. Meet other travelers and step back and “smell the roses! Oh, the beds were comfortable and the lockers were large☺️
Some might not like this far from the city centre, but the building is a historic artefact and I’ve only seen a youth hostel on the beach one other time: in Kihei Hawaii. The hallways and rooms are the most spacious I’ve ever seen in all my time in Hostel If you want hot water for shower just wait about 10 minutes in the girls dorm, but once it comes, it’s awesome shower pressure and lots of heat. Make sure you go out and see the feral bunnies by the sailing centre Or eat at the sailing club restaurant – – they have excellent food and beautiful Vista especially at Sunset
Hassan is a great guy, really well put together, always polite, professional guy. AJ has always got good tunes playing, sits there all cheerfully, makes just the right amount of small talk ;)
Nice enough place in a charming area, bathrooms were very clean. Would be nice if the shared dorms had more outlets and more control over individual lighting (like a reading lamp by each bed or even a light for each quad pod) - lights were out before 9pm in the 14 person dorm leaving most people to rely on their phone flashlights.
This place turned me away on Christmas. Even though I booked in advance. The French guy with dreads said "sorry buddy". Because I was born in BC, they didn't care that I was living in Europe since 4 years, in Montreal for 7 years before, and was only in Vancouver to visit. I hadn't 'lived locally' since I was a child. I have traveled to over 40 countries and never seen a hostel ban people because they are citizens of those countries. Can you provide any explanation why I'm denied services from HI hostels if I can prove I'm currently living on another continent at the time?
