It was a guided tour, and we got a completely different and professionally artistic point of view. MUŻA has an amazing art collection in the heart of Valletta. Don’t miss visiting it if you are an art lover.
Highly interesting national museum, presenting mostly Maltese artists. The museum is small and exhibit could be viewed in under 2 hours. Regarding exhibit: Malta has really rich history and somehow I expected bigger exhibition. I'm not commenting on quality - that could be subjective, but on quantity. Organisation was good, with clean facilities located on every floor. Elevator was also functional and in good working order. Stuff was friendly, polite and helpful. Locally made souvenirs are also available for purchasing in the ticketing office for reasonable price. The one thing I think they need to improve on is the illumination of paints. I understand that illuminating oil paintings is not easy, but it must be better then this. On many paintings I struggled to see the actual work properly - it was either overexposed or underexposed. I know that good and proper light fixtures are expensive and that maybe this museum does not have the funds to cover it properly, but I hope they will find a way. All-in-all You definitely should visit this place. It will really shed some interesting light on Malta and it's rich cultural history. Then you can tie it together with visit to War Museum.
MUŻA is a museum that reveals itself gradually. Opened in 2018 as Malta’s National Community Art Museum, it is housed in the historic Auberge d’Italie-once the residence of the Knights of St John. The building alone is worth attention: restrained limestone architecture, an internal courtyard, and a quiet interplay of light that shapes the experience as much as the artworks themselves. The collection is thoughtfully curated rather than extensive. Instead of overwhelming the visitor, it traces Malta’s artistic and cultural layers-from European influences to local identity-presented with clarity and balance. The concept of "community" is central here: art is positioned not as isolated masterpieces, but as part of a living narrative. MUŻA also participates in Malta’s contemporary cultural scene, hosting temporary exhibitions and contributing to events such as the Malta Biennale. A museum that invites reflection rather than spectacle.
Beautiful Maltese paintings and sculptures. Highly recommended a visit to see the breadth of art available here. Particularly liked the sculptures myself.
Very interesting museum! At first it gives the impression that it is a small gallery, but in fact it is not. The museum has a very interesting interior - a bonus to the paintings that you will see inside. There are arrows painted on the floor and it is very easy to move from hall to hall. The collection of paintings and sculptures is large and the works are from all periods. We visited it on a Monday at noon and it was very quiet. Entrance - 10 €
