Our visit to Casa Carmela was much more than a meal—it was a cultural and family experience that we will never forget. This was my first time in Valencia, making the experience even more special. We dined with my sister, brother-in-law, and niece, who live there. My father was born in Valencia but emigrated many years ago, so being able to share this moment with family in the city where his story began was incredibly meaningful. We ordered the traditional Valencian paella, and it was absolutely incredible. What I had eaten and known as “paella” before was nothing compared to the authentic version served at Casa Carmela. The flavor, the quality of the ingredients, and the traditional preparation were outstanding. What made the experience even more memorable was how we were taught the proper way to enjoy the paella. We were given wooden spoons and shown the traditional way of eating directly from the pan. It felt like we were participating in a cherished Valencian tradition rather than simply having a meal. Another wonderful discovery was the Cremaet, a traditional Valencian coffee that I had never heard of before. It was delicious and the perfect ending to an unforgettable lunch. From the authentic food and warm hospitality to the traditions and family memories, Casa Carmela gave us one of the most special experiences of our trip to Spain. If you want to experience true Valencian paella, this is a place you simply cannot miss. 🇪🇸🥘❤️☕✨
Of course well known for Paella and local food. We ordered a Valencian Paella and this was possible despite its stated on menu to pre-order. They have and extraordinary selection of wine which makes it almost hard to have the right choice but everybody may find something. Service is fast and pleasent for such a huge place. All in it's was a very nice lunch.
We had lunch at Casa Carmela with my wife, and it was our second visit — and once again, everything was very good. The paella was definitely the highlight. You can taste the wood fire cooking, with rich flavor and perfectly cooked rice. The seafood, especially the prawns and langoustines, was fresh and well prepared. We also had a couple of starters like tomato and tuna salad and the anchovies — simple dishes, but really high quality ingredients and nicely done. The atmosphere is relaxed and traditional, and the service was friendly and efficient. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and a place we’re happy to return to.
It’s a nice restaurant, but is very hyped and thus always packed. For that reason, some of the reviews that mention a “paella factory” vibe are correct. However most paella places near the beach are also like that. The paella is flavorful; they have an extensive wine list and there is a bar area that can seat walk-ins when they are not too busy. They do have a €50 euro pp minimum, so it is certainly a pricey option for Valencia. And, I do believe that there are comparable paella restaurants in Valencia that are just as good and less expensive. The location right off the beach is great. The wood-fired paella has a nice flavor and it’s fun to watch them make it. If you can ask for seats in the primary dining room, it would be recommended.
Exceptional food, disappointing front‑of‑house welcome. The food at Casa Carmela is outstanding and absolutely deserves its reputation. The spiny lobster paella was perfectly cooked with beautiful socarrat, and the grilled red prawns were exceptional — simple, sweet, and impeccably done. This is serious, traditional Valencian cooking at a very high level. Unfortunately, the experience started poorly with the front staff. I asked politely if a better table was available and was told those tables were reserved for larger groups, only to then see them given to another party of two. The response felt dismissive and inconsistent. The kitchen and service on the floor deserve full marks — the welcome does not.
