I got a private bedroom with shared bathrooms. It's in the center of everything at Kensington market and close to U of T. It appeared that one side of the building was identified male and the other side female/nb/trans though it wasn't explicitly expressed. What I love about this place is they are constantly cleaning the common areas including hallways, lobby, kitchen and bathrooms. There's a shared toilet stall room and another for showers with privacy curtains. Both rooms had sinks and I rarely ran into anybody. It's very loud at night with the partying on the street. However, the front desk will do everything they can to help you sleep, including giving you ear plugs and turning on the AC/heating unit for white noise. I'm a light sleeper and I was able to fall asleep. I had plenty of opportunities to talk to people in the communal kitchen, dining room, outdoor picnic table and couch room. Re kitchen: I appreciated the free food area and the breakfast was nice, they provided plant milk for the vegans or dairy intolerant. Coffee is available most times of the day. The only downside about the kitchen was the lack of sharp knives, maybe they should consider getting a knife sharpener. There's no doubt I would stay here again!
I stayed here for 10 days and really loved the location. The hostel is right in Kensington Market, surrounded by great vintage shops and plenty of restaurants. Union Station is about a 20-minute streetcar ride away, which made getting around easy. I stayed in a 4-bed female dorm. Each bed has privacy curtains, a power outlet to charge your phone, and a personal locker. The bathrooms are shared on the floor and were mostly clean. The stalls could be a bit more spacious, but the showers had hot water and good pressure. Breakfast is included and offers bagels, fruit, cereal, coffee, and tea. There’s a large shared fridge, a freezer, and small cubbies for storing dry food, which is very convenient for longer stays. They offer some activities, though there wasn’t much happening during my stay. Free earplugs, towels, and extra blankets are available at reception 24/7, which is a nice touch. One small downside: the common areas were often quite cold and didn’t really invite you to linger or spend much time there.
I stayed in a private room at Samesun and had a great experience overall. Both the room and the shared bathroom were very clean, which I really appreciated. The shower had excellent water pressure, and the hot water was available instantly 👌. The complimentary breakfast was simple but definitely enough to get the day started. The only thing worth mentioning (and this isn’t the hostel’s fault) is that the location can get quite noisy at night. If you’re a light sleeper, that’s something to keep in mind. Overall, I would absolutely recommend staying here and would gladly come back again in the future.
Excellent stay here in the girls 6 bed dorm. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable (though very squeaky). The staff were super nice and friendly. Excellent breakfast! Great location. Safe and secure. I highly recommend. Constructive feedback: The dorm beds were quite squeaky so very noisy every time someone turned. Would recommend fixing that.
This was my 2nd stay at Samesun Toronto, and if I visit Toronto in future, I will stay there again. Very easy to sign in and out - friendly and helpful staff. The dorms, bathrooms, kitchen, amenities and other areas were all very clean. The breakfast was great! The location is awesome - I loved Kensington!! Public transport options are very good too. For this stay I had a late night check in, and being a lone woman traveller with bulk luggage, rather than follow the hostel suggestion for public transport, which involves a couple of changes and a short walk down a street I was not sure about the first time I made the trip... I decided to get the train from Pearsons airport right into Union Station, and either catch the light rail from there up to College Street - which is pretty close to the hostel. Or get a cab from Union Station. Just check with the cab drivers first. A previous trip cost $14 on the metre, but one tried to charge me $40 up front.
