I’d been looking forward to trying Bernhardt and was hoping it wouldn’t turn out to be one of those pretend-European spots serving average food — but I was genuinely so happy to be proven wrong. The service was one of the highlights. Our servers were incredibly friendly and gave very honest recommendations based on how hungry we actually were, which I really appreciated. We started with the lettuce with anchovy butter and chanterelles — delicious overall, though just slightly too salty for my taste. The wine was excellent, and the chicken completely stole the show. I once had roasted chicken at a Michelin-starred restaurant, but this one honestly stood out even more: moist, tender, and incredibly succulent. I also loved the option of getting half fries and half wedges. The bun was great too, though the coleslaw could have used a bit more punch. Dessert was the soft serve with blueberry and saffron, which felt really original and memorable. It’s no surprise this place is always packed. The patio has such a cozy vibe, and the whole experience felt warm and thoughtful. Would absolutely recommend it and would love to come back.

Bernhardt’s is one of those rare Toronto restaurants that genuinely lives up to the hype. The space feels effortlessly chic and intimate, with a lively energy that still manages to feel comfortable rather than scene-driven. Service was excellent from start to finish. Attentive without hovering, knowledgeable about the menu, and paced perfectly so the evening felt relaxed and intentional rather than rushed. The food is where Bernhardt’s really stands out. Every dish felt carefully executed with a strong focus on quality ingredients and bold, clean flavours. The cooking manages to feel refined while still deeply comforting, which is surprisingly hard to achieve. Nothing felt overcomplicated, just extremely well done. The wine list is also thoughtfully curated and complements the menu beautifully. This is the kind of place that works equally well for a special dinner or for a high-quality night out with friends, and it’s absolutely somewhere I will go back to. Easily a five-star experience.

Bernhardt’s is one of those places that gets it right without trying too hard. Had dinner there tonight in Toronto and came away really impressed. The room is warm, lively and comfortable in a way that makes you want to stay. It has that hard-to-find balance where it feels cool and current, but never cold or self-important. Just a genuinely fun spot to spend a night. The drink list is really strong too. Enough variety to make it interesting, but not so much that it feels like they are showing off. It fits the room and the food well. We started with the whipped labneh cucumber salad and the artichoke salad, and both were excellent. Fresh, bright, well balanced, and the kind of dishes that feel simple until you realize they are much better than they need to be. The whipped labneh in particular was one of those dishes that disappears quickly because everybody at the table keeps going back for one more bite. The chicken was terrific. Great flavor, cooked properly, generous portion, and the kind of dish that reminds you that when simple food is done well, it beats a lot of overworked menu ideas. We also had the half and half fries, which were exactly what they needed to be and then some. Crisp, satisfying, and perfect for sharing. And then dessert. The mango chocolate ice cream was ridiculous. Honestly, it may be the best ice cream in the city. That is not throwaway praise. It was memorable, balanced, rich without being too much, and the kind of dessert you keep thinking about after you leave. What stood out beyond the food was that Bernhardt’s feels honest. Healthy portions, very good pricing for the quality, and a place that seems to know exactly what it is. No gimmicks, no unnecessary fuss, just really good food, a great atmosphere, and a restaurant that makes you want to come back. Toronto has no shortage of places trying to be the next big thing. Bernhardt’s does not need to force it. It is already a fantastic spot.

First time here and got the asparagus, the fried feta, and chicken. Food was absolutely fantastic and the staff were great! This was a highlight of all the places I've eaten in the city. The potatoes were very good. Also got the Cinq a Sept as a cocktail that was wonderful.

We had such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was beautifully prepared and perfect for sharing — our group of four enjoyed four appetizers and the chicken, and every dish impressed. The cocktail, especially Bernie’s G&T, was refreshing and full of flavor. What truly elevated the evening, though, was our server, Eric. He made all the difference in our experience. His recommendations were spot-on, and his timing with service was flawless, always attentive without ever feeling intrusive. Eric went out of his way to ensure we felt taken care of, from engaging us about the dishes to thoughtfully suggesting wines with genuine knowledge and enthusiasm. His professionalism combined with his warm, personable approach set the tone for the night. Thanks to Eric, what could have been just a great meal became an outstanding experience. We’ll definitely be coming back.
