I came across this restaurant through several posts and online recommendations, and I’m so glad I managed to get a reservation! It was an outstanding experience. We ordered the restaurant’s set meal, and every dish was cooked to absolute perfection — each one was delicious, and the meat was unbelievably tender, melting in the mouth. We especially loved the steak, which was prepared with incredible skill. Honestly, it’s the best steak I’ve ever had in my life. A restaurant truly worthy of its reputation — highly recommended! In addition, the staff and servers were extremely friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was relaxed and not overly formal.
Made a mistake by not ordering the course menu beforehand. Hence we were left with ala carte menu. What we didn't realize is that not ordering course menu comes with additional service discrimination. One of the lady staff we encounter wasn't even willing to cook the beef even though she was standing in front of us (counter seating). It was only until when we asked how to cook and how many minutes that the other lady staff helped us to cook. The 2nd lady staff is much more kind to us by not only cooking for us but also engaging in small talks. I do believe that service in a restaurant goes a long way. I do accept the fact that I made the mistake of not ordering the course menu beforehand and hence am left to order from the limited ala carte menu. But service discrimination is definitely not appreciated. PS thank you very much to the 2nd lady for still looking after us which somewhat salvage the entire experience.
Excellent meal! It is amazing that the entire course comprised of beef of different types/parts and preparation methods and yet every piece is perfectly executed and amazingly soft with different textures and tastes. Highly recommend to try this place at least once.
If you’re a tourist, I strongly recommend not going out of your way to dine here in Hongo. Their beef tongue uses the tip of the tongue, which is widely considered the worst part. I’ve been eating yakiniku in Japan for over ten years, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen a restaurant actually serve tongue tip. It was unbelievably tough, with extremely coarse fibers — genuinely unpleasant to eat. The thick-cut skirt steak (harami) itself had potential, but it was poorly prepared with no tendon trimming, making it unnecessarily difficult to chew. Even worse, the thickness of each slice was inconsistent. Basic knife skills seem to be lacking. Overall quality was very underwhelming. Frankly speaking, even Jojoen, a standard chain yakiniku restaurant, performs far better than this place — because this experience was simply disappointing. The staff’s product knowledge was equally questionable. When asked about kainomi, they incorrectly identified it as harami, which raises concerns about their professionalism. In short, the meat quality, preparation, knife work, and service knowledge do not justify the price point.
Hands down the best beef I ever had. We ordered everything they recommended, and I suggest you do the same. The beef is masterfully roasted in front of you by a staff member. The staff is very friendly and they emphasize which beef cut is coming next. It's a small restaurant, so book a table in advance. If I'm back in Tokyo, I am surely coming back here again.
