Mary's Underground has a great, chill ambiance and a solid underground vibe, but the food was a massive letdown. As an American having my first-ever burger in Australia, I found the quality absolutely horrendous. I honestly could have made a better burger using frozen patties from Walmart. I’m not sure if this is just how Sydney does burgers, but whatever that was, it was a total miss.
Was there on Tuesday 3/3, burgers were great, however the “Suds” brand beer was the worst beer I’ve ever had, I thought… maybe a 1 off so I got another… nope… now 1 & 2 of the worst beers I’ve ever had and watched in horror as they used a straw to tray and “fluff up” my 2nd beer… staff weren’t helpful at all and thought it was fine to serve. We left shortly after food arrived for a venue with good beer.
We had our wedding reception at Marys and couldn’t have been happier with the venue. The space was amazing, with fantastic light and sound that made for such a fun night. Mel, the event director, and Holly, the manager on the night, were both incredible —so patient, professional, always happy to answer our questions, and so on top of everything. Everything ran so smoothly, the food was great, and the late-night burgers and fries were a huge hit!
Great venue and the gig was superb but the food was absolutely disgusting. Ordered the chicken burger and the chicken thigh “fillet” so full of gelatinous fat I couldn’t eat it. Obviously they’re using the cheapest, poorest quality chicken thinking if it’s coated and deep fried, no one will notice. I did. 🤮
The bartenders were hella nice and the live music was good too. We dined there for dinner and food was great. A little disappointed that it was $3 for a small roll of bread and they didn’t provided enough bread for the pate so I ended up ordering like $12 worth of bread for myself (just for entrees) LOL. But ye in general would recommend. Their duck is to die for and we really regretted not ordering two of those bad boys. Ended up fighting over who can have the drum stick. I lost.
