Really enjoyed this day out! We went on a snowy, cold Saturday, the whole site was beautiful! It was very quiet and we saw almost all of the animals (bear exhibit seemed to be closed which was disappointing) but loved how big the enclosures were too. Food was also good. Very hilly and a massive site though so recommend considering the shoes you wear!

Skansen is a magnificent open-air museum that beautifully brings Sweden's rich cultural history and diverse wildlife to life in one stunning location. Strolling through the beautifully preserved historic buildings truly feels like stepping back in time, offering a deeply immersive and nostalgic experience. It is an absolute must-visit in Stockholm, perfectly blending history, nature, and Scandinavian charm into an unforgettable day out.

The world’s first open-air museum, bringing together traditional Swedish villages, folk culture, and native animals in a single site. It was founded in 1891 by the ethnographer Artur Hazelius, who was concerned that Sweden’s rural traditions were disappearing. Historic houses, churches, and workshops from different regions and periods were relocated here and preserved in their original form. The name Skansen comes from an old word meaning a fortification or defensive structure. Visitors can watch traditional crafts being practiced, including glassblowing, metalworking, and leather tanning. The museum also hosts numerous events and demonstrations throughout the grounds. Its zoo focuses on Scandinavian animals such as moose, reindeer, and wolves, and there is also a small aquarium. Seasonal celebrations are an important part of the experience, with the Christmas market being especially famous. ※ Included in the Go City Pass.

This was a return visit for me, first time for my spouse. Nice display of traditional Swedish buildings, but would have appreciated more examples of traditional craft working. I would recommend that staff visit Connors Prairie in Indiana for some inspiration. The Nordic Animals were great.

This ws my first open air museum experience. I loved it. There were even people role playing from the era they belonged. The historical walk was an amazing experience. Although all the places wete not open, I could still get to experience few of the attractions. I personally was amazed by the glass making workshop. The zoo on the other side was also a fun experience. The ticket also included access to the match museum. It was worth the money and time. I ended up spending 3+ hours, yet I could not go to all the spots. Children's would love this place no doubt. During summer, this is the best place to come along with family. Online tickets are cheaper then buying on spot.
