This was a fantastic stay at one of the premier Small Luxury Resorts! I utilized the free night reward from my Diamond membership and this was a wonderful use of the credit! The check in process was pretty smooth with Rebecca helping us throughout and allowing us to see several rooms that she could upgrade us to. We were thankful to select a room that satisfied our needs. It was really neat that no room was the same which I thought was a very unique touch with very unique art pieces and designs on the different floors and even each room. The rooms were well appointed as well with several luxurious touches and unique design features. Our breakfast was included as well which provided several options for an a la carte style and various buffet options too. During checkout, Nicole was super helpful and courteous as well to store our bags as we explored Stockholm for the day (the hotel is in a very centralized location of Stockholm with everything walking distance away) amidst even dealing with a difficult client beforehand. We were very grateful to stay here once again and I am thankful that we got to check out this wonderful boutique hotel!

Hotel Lydmar is a truly outstanding hotel with character and soul, and it’s easy to understand why it receives such excellent reviews. The combination of style, atmosphere, and service makes it one of the most memorable places to stay in Stockholm. The location is superb — right on the waterfront in the heart of the city, with beautiful views of the Old Town, the Royal Palace, and the harbor. Many of Stockholm’s main attractions are within easy walking distance, making it an ideal base for exploring the city. Rooms are spacious and individually designed, featuring comfortable seating areas and unique works of art that give each room its own personality. The atmosphere is both stylish and cozy, with great attention to detail and a strong sense of warmth and comfort throughout. The hotel’s restaurant, The Dining Room, is excellent, offering delicious dishes inspired by French and New York cuisine in a lively yet relaxed setting. Breakfast is outstanding — generous, high quality, and often mentioned as one of the best in the city. The bar and seasonal terrace are also wonderful spots to unwind. The staff truly elevate the experience: multilingual, friendly, and genuinely attentive, always ready to help. The overall vibe is fashionable yet inviting — “mysig,” as the Swedes say — relaxed, artistic, and refreshingly different from traditional, formal hotels. Hotel Lydmar is a perfect choice for travelers seeking a stylish stay, exceptional service, and a prime waterfront location. Highly recommended and a place you’ll want to return to.

I’ve been returning to the Lydmar for over thirty years now, which means I’ve watched it age the way you watch certain friends age — with interest, occasional concern, and ultimately relief that they’ve figured something out. The original location near Stureplan was the rock and roll hotel before that became a category. Viktoria Tolstoy singing, Swedish photographers on the walls—all edges and energy. The rooms were noisy. We didn’t care. That was a different era, when discomfort signaled authenticity. In 2008, the Lydmar migrated to a small castle beside the Grand Hotel. Both occupy the finest position in Stockholm, water-facing, perfect. If the Grand is the elderly Swedish countess — impeccable, untouchable — the Lydmar is her subversive granddaughter. Well-bred but uninterested in behaving. The Swedish breakfast remains gloriously excessive in that particularly Scandinavian way — abundance presented as restraint. The staff has stayed excellent across decades, which tells you something about how the place is run. What persists is the cultural DNA. Art and photography still command the hallways, edgy and deliberate. The Lydmar never forgot it was supposed to be more than accommodation. It’s a gathering place for people who think about things. I love it still. Though the rooms could use a little update. On my last trip, arriving early from New York with promises of room access, I was denied — the room wasn’t ready. The manager couldn’t even secure me breakfast seating. I ate in the lobby. The food was good enough to restore my equilibrium. Even the Lydmar’s rare failures are oddly forgivable. A genuine uplift.
