A wonderful experience in one of Stockholm’s most historic restaurants. I had the Arctic char with a glass of wine and finished with a chocolate truffle for dessert. The fish was absolutely excellent — very fresh, delicate, and beautifully cooked. It came with a hollandaise sauce which was good, although honestly the fish was so flavorful that it didn’t really need it. The chocolate truffle was a perfect small dessert to finish the meal. The whole dinner came to about 550 SEK, which felt very reasonable for such a historic place and high-quality food. The space itself is also very charming and comfortable. The dining room has real candles and a warm atmosphere that makes it a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy a relaxed dinner. Overall, it was a great experience and a memorable stop in Gamla Stan.

If in Stockholm, make a reservation and come here. It will be the best meal you possibly have. In total we had 3 courses, 4 drinks which consisted of a cocktail, a g&t, wine and a speciality coffee and the total came to around 160ish euros with a tip included 180 and it was worth every penny. Settled in the romantic old town of Stockholm and the oldest restaurant in the country it's a historical place and will continue to be with what's being offered. I had the Skagen to start and my partner the pate, followed by Swedish meatballs for both and dessert. I had the truffle, she the fondant and I had a speciality coffee. Server was amazing, informative, attentive but not intrusive. Ambiance was romantic and service was a perfect pace and enjoyed the near 2 hours we were there, couldn't be faulted. I could write and write about the food I had here but to be perfectly honest it's just better you come here on your own and see firsthand just how good it is. An absolute gem and one of the best experiences I've had hands down on every aspect.

During my seven days in Stockholm, I made a point of trying a different restaurant each day, always looking for places that were well regarded but also clearly frequented by locals. By chance, I discovered Den Gyldene Freden, and it turned out to be the best restaurant I visited during my entire week in the city. From the outside, when you approach the restaurant, nothing particularly surprising stands out. But the moment you step inside, everything changes. The interior atmosphere is fantastic — beautifully decorated in a rustic, traditional style. In the evening, the candlelight creates a warm and charming environment that makes the experience even more special. The restaurant also has a bar area that stays open throughout the day, even when the kitchen is closed, which adds to the welcoming atmosphere of the place. Before my starter arrived, the house served some complimentary bread. Even at that moment I already knew I had made the right choice. The bread was absolutely wonderful and a perfect introduction to what was coming next. For my starter, I ordered the Fennel pickled herring. The presentation was beautiful — the portion size was perfect, not too big and not too small. The attention to detail was clear in the presentation, aroma, and especially in the flavor. It was spectacular — truly an explosion of flavors. Originally I wanted to try moose, hoping to experience a traditional local meat, but unfortunately it was not available at this time of the year. Instead, I ordered the Wild boar sausage, served with baked cabbage and potato cream with roasted garlic, Madeira jus and deep-fried onion. The potato cream and cabbage were already excellent, but the sausage itself was on another level. Once again, an incredible explosion of flavors. The service was outstanding — extremely polite and attentive staff, a great selection of beers and other drinks, and a beautiful, clean, and very pleasant environment. If you are looking for an excellent place to enjoy a memorable meal in Stockholm, in a charming and authentic setting, Den Gyldene Freden is an absolute must. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit.

The second oldest restaurant, established in 1772 .When you enter the restaurant you feel that. I start with toast skagen. It is the most delicious thing that I tried in Stockholm. butter , bread , shrimps, caviar and its sauce .. delicious. And than I ate swedish meatball, but unfortunately I didn’t like it.. Staffs are helpful and smiling. All people who go stockholm should visit that restaurant

Amazing food and great ambience! Lobster soup, baked char and cured cod were all super delicious. The brown butter ice cream on the side of chocolate fondant was a great surprise, and the bavaroise is yummy if you want a more fresh dessert. Also LOVE how intimate the vault section of the restaurant is 🫶🏻 can’t recommend enough!!
