Regarded as the zenith of contemporary Nordic-Japanese cuisine in Singapore, we walked into Zén with high expectations and left with an experience that was beyond delightful. Right from the start, the tone and atmosphere were clear - friendly, professional service coupled with refined dishes, set in an elegant yet homely environment. The canapés impressed us with their complex taste profiles and meticulous presentation that made them almost too beautiful to eat. Our anticipation for the meal rose with every burst of flavours in each bite. Upstairs, the courses were finished and served table-side by a youthful and energetic team, providing just the right amount of theatre and intrigue. As a 3-star establishment, the components on every plate hit the mark with the level of precision in preparation, seasoning and cooking expected. Fruits and final sweets rounded off the meal at the third floor, where the comforting ambience made us wish we could have stayed longer to soak in the gastronomy we just enjoyed from the enthusiastic and talented teams at the back and front of house. We wish Team Zén continued success and are grateful for the passionately and uniquely crafted experience. 🇸🇪 🇯🇵 🇸🇬 🍽️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
It was a stellar experience, from the moment you ring the bell to enter this magnificent Singaporean home, a hidden gem on the edge of Chinatown, until the moment your hosts escort you to the doorstep at the end of your meal. It was a truly unique gastronomic journey for all our senses. Each course corresponded to a room in the house, whose warm and intimate furnishings and décor prepared us to fully appreciate the dishes presented. We loved the display in the kitchen, showcasing the ingredients of each dish, along with explanations provided by attentive and passionate staff. Every course on the menu was a new discovery, introducing flavors to our European palates. The depth, subtlety, harmony, and balance in every bite completely won us over. We were also captivated by the wine pairing, which took us into new olfactory and gustatory territories, unfamiliar to us as we are with more classic pairings. Meeting the talented young Austrian chef Martin Öfner was a truly special moment. His career path, his shared passion for different cuisines, and his warm and modest manner are a source of inspiration for my godson, a student at the Lausanne Hotel School. Singapore is far from Switzerland, but when we return, another visit to Zèn will be a given.
The flavour theme here focuses on balance, with their savoury dishes from their initial bites to mains always carrying notes of acidity and occasional sweetness, which makes for a delightful journey that doesn’t leave you too stuffed (which I guess depending on your perspective is either a pro or con). I did wish chef Bjorn relaxed this religious adherence to flavour balance in the desserts though, which were nice but not exactly rich or decadent enough for my preference. The service here is also impeccable and as bonus, they also serve up a superb flat white, which I must say is a pleasant surprise given how many a Michelin starred restaurant has pretty average coffee.
visited on 27 Mar 2025. food is exquisite, expected of a 3 michelin star place. you are brought to different levels of the building for different courses, which is nice as you won’t get too bored of where you are sitting. the table-side presentation was nice, but some courses took too long to serve. we went there around 630/7pm and left around 12am so cater enough time. lovely experience as some dishes really blew our minds.
Unforgettable, a wonderful lunch, it was beautiful food and it was fun, not at all stuffy. They are very serious about their menu whilst understanding that people are there for the whole experience, I was very well looked after for my birthday.
