I learned a lot about Singapore’s history through the museum’s interactive multimedia exhibits and high-quality visuals, which made the experience feel immersive and engaging. From its early days as a fishing village to its rise as a global metropolis, you really get a sense of the hard work and vision that shaped Singapore into what it is today. What I especially appreciated was how values-driven the museum felt. During our visit, there was an activity where Singaporeans were encouraged to write heartfelt letters to expatriates, and there were also several exhibits showing what life was like for expats working in Singapore and the kinds of jobs they held. Older generations were also given space to share their stories with younger visitors, which added a meaningful intergenerational element to the experience. Everything felt centered on connection, empathy, and understanding, and that was the theme I loved most about the museum. The building itself is also beautiful, with plenty of photo spots throughout, so it’s easy to take nice pictures to share with friends. The only caveat is that the Singapore Odyssea exhibition is a little pricey, so we ended up visiting the free option, Once Upon a Tide, instead. Even so, it was still well worth seeing. A great stop if you’re looking for something educational, meaningful, and family-friendly.
National Museum of Singapore, located at Stamford Road, is the oldest museum in Singapore and one of the largest in Asia. Catch the history of heritage preserved in the majestic building with exhibits of paintings, sculptures and archaeological finds. Ticketed entry to the museum. While you are there, do explore the Singapore Odyssea: A Journey Through Time, which is free for local citizens and PRs. Pick up a wrist band at the entrance and be accompanied with your pet avatar alongside the interactive exhibition shows and videos. Museum visit is no longer dry but interestly fun and engaging for all. Highly recommended!
This National Museum of Singapore is very worth to visit! Noted that most of the exhibit's explanation is in English. And most of local friends are chinese educated. It would be better if there is something (i.e. QR code) for other foreign visitors to scan and it automatically translate to their preferred languages to read. I believed Singapore has many of this IT talents who are able to go this impressive things.
Visited the National Museum of Singapore on a public holiday — entry was free, which was a nice bonus 👍 The museum itself is beautifully maintained, with a stunning mix of colonial architecture and modern exhibition spaces. The Shaw Foundation Glass Rotunda and immersive installations like Singapore Odyssey are particularly impressive and visually engaging. The overall experience is well curated and accessible for visitors of all ages However, a major exhibition on Singapore’s history is currently under renovation (until October 2026), which does take away a big part of the experience. It was also quite crowded, as expected on a public holiday As a Singaporean, I found some parts a bit underwhelming — perhaps because I’m already familiar with much of the history being presented. That said, it would still be a great visit for tourists or anyone looking for a well-designed introduction to Singapore’s story
12Dec2025 We went to the impressionist exhibition. For Singaporeans, it is free. We did reserved the tickets online but no payment required. There was also another small exhibition outside the museum. It showed all the old stuff from the past. You could also take a picture with the old settings and get the hardcopy for free. You can also download in online😀. The impressionist exhibition has 3 halls. If you like artist like Monet, you will be able to appreciate the art pieces. The Odyssey exhibition was a bit disappointing. The FB publicised it like it was so fantastic but when you actually see it, it is not as great. However you can go experience it yourselves. It is also free for Singaporeans😀😀😀😀😀😀
