One of the best hidden gems I found in Singapore for laksa. If you’re visiting SG, this place is definitely worth trying! the laksa is seriously so good. The prices are also really affordable (Small SGD 7.30, Large SGD 9.30). It’s a simple self-service spot, and the place itself is pretty small and not exactly Instagrammable, but honestly the taste makes up for everything. No regrets coming here at all.
Delicious laksa eaten with a spoon. Aromatic rempah with light coconut milk broth - so well balanced and tasty. Otak-otak also tastes great. The cold lime juice so refreshing. Shop is small but orderly. Prompt service and food is prepared quickly.
If you go during meal times, be prepared to wait for seats indoor, though they do have outdoor seating as well. Side dishes like otah and mantou are also acceptable to the taste buds. Laksa isn't that spicy and they have reasonable numbers of "si-hum" (cockles) in the laksa. However do be prepared to wait 10 minutes for your mantou, but u can enjoy the wall plastered photos of celebrities with the owner, while they prepare the dish food for u.
Price is very expensive now. Photos are very misleading, it shows the prawn are big ones with the head intact. But you receive small prawns... Chilli is so sweet like nasi lemak chilli now. Is no longer like the ones that every table has. It is quite bad. The otak is surprising still ok. A bit warm when taken.
Tried this famous Katong Laksa at its original location, which received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. The place is about a 10 min walk from Marine Parade MRT station. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining with ample seating. Photos of celebrities who have visited and tried their famous laksa are pasted on the wall. After ordering and paying at the counter, the laksa were immediately served. The laksa was rich in flavour, you can taste the sweetness of the coconut milk–based broth and the spiciness from the dried shrimp. The noodles were cut into smaller pieces so you can conveniently eat them with a spoon. The original laksa was topped with small shrimp halves and slices of fishcake while the shredded chicken laksa was topped with a generous amount of shredded chicken and a perfectly soft-boiled egg. I also tried the Luohan Longan which was not too sweet.
