Yi Long Court is a high-end, 1930s Shanghai-themed Cantonese restaurant located on the second floor of The Peninsula Shanghai. It offers refined, award-winning cuisine—including signature smoked chicken with tea, dim sum, and braised dishes—within an Art Deco-designed, romantic setting that features dark wood, chandeliers, and an 8-seat chef's table. We recently dined at Yi Long Court at The Peninsula Shanghai, and unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The prawn dim sum was the only dish that came through at an acceptable level, though even that was simply average. The rest of the meal fell short. The other dim sums, spring rolls, wok prawns, and noodles were overly oily, lacked depth of flavor, and were difficult to enjoy. Overall, the execution did not reflect the standard one would expect from a restaurant of this level. It also raises a broader question around the Michelin Guide. When a restaurant holds a Michelin star, there is an expectation of consistency and quality. Experiences like this make it difficult to reconcile that recognition, and ultimately risk affecting the credibility of the guide if standards are not consistently upheld. A disappointing visit, overall 0/10

Beautiful restaurant inside the stunning The Peninsula Shanghai, where we are guests, with an elegant atmosphere and impeccable decor. However, the dining experience was disappointing. The restaurant was surprisingly empty, and despite that, the staff kept rushing the service and pushing dishes to the table too quickly, which made the experience feel pressured rather than refined. The food was good, but honestly nothing memorable or deserving of Michelin-level expectations. While the hotel itself is exceptional, I would not particularly recommend the restaurant.

The traditional almost majestically decorated Yi Long Court Restaurant in the famous Penninsula Hotel in Shanghai is surely one of the best Cantonese places in the city. Classic, authentic and totally fresh prepared dishes which showcase the almost endless variety of one of the best high-kitchens in the world. From the BBQ starters, try the roasted pork belly, to the many fresh fish and crustaceans prepared the way you like them to tasty pork and beef delicacies. This place leaves no wishes unfulfilled. An excellent wine list, with a Spätburgunder from Huber in Malterdingen, Germany complements the feast perfectly. The staff is attentive and very helpful and friendly. The prices are what you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. What a highly pleasent meal! After dinner go up to the roof top bar and enjoy a breathtaking view of the bund.

I absolutely love this restaurant . The decor , the service , the music , the views and the Dishes ( let’s not talk about the tea warmer .. beautiful and could not find a similar one to purchase ) . This was my fourth visit and never disappoint . This time we had the excellent service and personal attention of Mr Ip . A very elegant gentleman with interesting conversation and Who understood i al vegetarian and prepared the food accordingly . The mango dessert is simply delicious . From the minute you walk in the Yi Long Court you feel transported to shanghai in the 1920… and the peninsula lobby had the most beautiful Christmas tree with Chanel ornaments ! 🎄❤️🎄 December 2023
