Tried the hairy crab here as it was during the season. It was quite fresh, simple steamed, fuss-free food. Other dishes were also not bad thought nothing spectacularly. I expected more as this place was quite highly rated. Restaurant was quite empty on a weekday afternoon. Prices are usual restaurant prices, hairy crabs are sold by the weight.
Was a complete rip off after they realize you are a tourist. We ordered 2 crabs and was charged around usd 65 for both. Compared with a friend after the meal and realised was overcharged. Won't recommend at all. Completely dishonest despite being such an old establishment. Shame
It’s meant to be ranked within top three in Shanghai for “hairy crab” but the food is just reasonable. I wouldn’t say their crab is better than most places.
We ate at the Internet famous 新荣记-paid a few thousands n its can’t beat the value of this traditional Shanghainese restaurant 王宝和! we order a veg , a wine fermented raw crab n two steam crab - it’s inexpensive n is value for money !
