Rong Fu Yan is a high-end Taizhou (Zhejiang) cuisine restaurant under the omakase-style dining concept by Xin Rong Ji. The Winter 2024 menu continues to feature classic Taizhou dishes such as braised yellow croaker with rice cakes (the summer menu features pomfret instead), fried stingray with vinegar and fermented tofu, and generously portioned stir-fried shark fin with egg. There are also hearty seasonal additions like five-year-old duck soup and winter-style lamb rice — in short, it’s a rich and indulgent spread. What truly draws me to Rong Fu Yan Shanghai, though, is the architecture. It’s housed in a beautifully preserved traditional residence built in 1930, blending East-West aesthetics with a Suzhou garden vibe, reminiscent of the style of I.M. Pei (the architect behind the Louvre Pyramid, among others).
The dining environment and atmosphere are fantastic, and the ingredients and dishes are amazing. Although the price is on the high side, it is well worth it and a restaurant I would definitely visit again.
Shanghai's highest hall of fame You must try it!
The flavors are rich and varied, incorporating historical allusions and creating a wonderful atmosphere!
