Historic Buddhist temple complex comprising 3 main halls & a massive sitting jade Buddha.via Google

An active Buddhist temple with a history dating back to the 3rd century, dramatically surrounded by modern shopping malls.

Good to know
Low-band entry fee. The contrast between the golden temple roofs and the glass skyscrapers is striking.

Jing'an Temple is a beautiful and serene Buddhist temple right in the heart of Shanghai. The golden pagoda and traditional architecture are stunning, and walking through the temple grounds feels like stepping into a peaceful sanctuary away from the city's hustle. The temple is well-maintained with intricate details, beautiful statues, and fragrant incense creating a spiritual atmosphere. It's a great place to learn about Buddhist culture, take photos, and enjoy moments of quiet reflection. Accessible by metro and located near popular shopping areas, so it's easy to combine a visit with other activities. The entrance fee is 50CNY.

My visit to Jing'an Temple in Shanghai was a peaceful and meaningful experience right in the middle of a busy city. The temple’s golden exterior immediately stands out, especially when surrounded by modern buildings, creating a beautiful contrast between tradition and urban life. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and spiritual. I saw visitors lighting incense and offering prayers, which added to the authentic cultural experience. The large Buddha statues and detailed architecture are truly impressive and worth taking time to appreciate. Despite the number of visitors, the temple still maintains a quiet and respectful environment. It’s a great place to slow down, reflect, and experience a different side of Shanghai beyond its skyscrapers. Overall, Jing’an Temple is a must-visit for anyone interested in culture, history, and peaceful surroundings.

Located in the heart of Shanghai, this is one of the must-visit landmarks in the city. In the center of the temple stands a large bronze incense burner. Visitors often try to toss a coin into the openings inside it, as it is believed to bring good luck. An entrance fee is required (50 CNY per person for foreign visitors).

In 1 PM, We Visited Jing'an Temple With My Grandpa, My Grandma, My Wife, And My Son. Step Through It's Gates, And The Noise Of The City Seems To Fade Away. The Scent Of Incense, The Sound Of Chanting, And The Peaceful Atmosphere Offer A Rare Moment Of Calm In One Of China’s Busiest Urban Centers. We Wearing A Mask Because Too Much Incense Smoke. This Place Is So Calm, And Also Crowded. Next Time, We Want To Visit This Place Again.
