for our first meal in Shanghai, we made a special trip here after reading reviews online. my verdict? the food is decent, but our seating arrangement totally killed the vibe. it was a busy Saturday afternoon in the small outlet, and we were assigned a narrow table sandwiched between the kitchen and other tables. manoeuvring our dishes for sharing was an uncomfortable experience. we also couldn’t eat facing one another as we had to sit side-by-side while facing other customers. I know JJTB is more of a casual dining restaurant, but it felt like we overpaid to eat in a fast food chain! our meal came up to 535 yuan or SGD $100, with 2 bowls of their signature crab roe noodles making up ~60% of the cost. 1. crab roe noodles: the star of the show, being decadent and rich as each bite was coated with a distinct crab roe flavour. the noodles were chewy and springy, but nothing special you can’t find elsewhere in a city that lives and breathes noodles. 2. xiao long bao: tasty! JJTB clearly lives up to its name, though they weren’t the best I’ve had in Shanghai 🫣 drop by JJTB only if you’re in the area and looking for a quick bite. otherwise, your money is better spent in finer restaurants around the city at the same price point!
Must try in Shanghai, this might be the best meal i have during my 5 days in this city. Signature dish is crab noodle and xiao long bao. I tried the pork noodle, it’s also really tasty, meat portion is so tender and juicy. I visited the shop as one of the last customers, but the owner is really friendly and thoughtful, they consulted us how to order, which dishes is must try and suit with Vietnamese taste.
We went to the Jia Jia tang bao that was located at a food court in a mall. I thought the service was fast and the food was delicious! The skin was thin and it didn’t break. The soup was very clean and very delicious. On top of that the price was beyond fair. We only spent ¥61 for 12 meat baos and 12 crab + meat baos. We came back a second time during our trip because of how much we loved it. Highly recommend!
The xiao long bao (soup dumplings) were one of the best things I've had in life!!! It's been a year since I had them and still every time I think of them, I'm transported back. The taste was amazing and texture was heavenly. We couldn't have enough of them and went back again and again! I can write pages on them! Without these, any trip to Shanghai is incomplete. Just SOOOO good!! Scallion noodles were good too.
The crab noodles are a standout dish—rich, flavorful, and generously coated in sauce. However, since the dish is quite rich and contains seafood, those with allergies should take note. Xiao long bao are excellent, with delicate, soft wrappers and a fragrant, savory soup filling inside. Each bite is juicy and satisfying. The restaurant itself has a beautiful, warm, and cozy atmosphere, making it a great place to enjoy a relaxed meal with friends or family.
