Jade Buddha Temple was a peaceful abode of worship during our trip to Shanghai. Located in the midst of the city's modern area, this active Buddhist monastery is a serene place with a beautiful and Buddhist architecture. It was surprising to see such a deeply religious place within the modern Chinas city centre. As soon as you enter we can see through the bright saffron walls and traditional archways. Isolated from the hustle of the city, the temple radiates the scent of incense and the soft murmur of prayers. The temple complex has the architecture of the Song Dynasty, with gracefully upturned eaves, intricate carvings, and courtyards. As soon as you enter and start the worship we feel a sense of calm and a living place of worship. The people and worshippers were also very friendly and gave allowed us to enjoy the atmosphere. The best part of the temple is the legendary Jade Buddha Hall. There were two exquisite, sacred jade Buddhas. The seated Buddha, carved from a single piece of luminous white Burmese jade, exudes sense of tranquility and serenity. There were also smaller reclining Buddha, depicting the Buddha's Parinirvana, There were the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, with its towering statue of Maitreya, the grand Great Treasure Hall, with statue of Siddhartha Gautama. We saw the monks and devotees in prayer and ritual, got to see a beautiful, respectful glimpse into Buddhist practice. The temple is well maintained, with signs in English.
We took the metro to see the Jade Buddha Temple and was a very cool temple. Very large area with many buildings to visit and look at. Many people buying incense and cards to write on and hang on things like trees, posts, etc. No entrance fee and there are a few souvenir shops to buy things if you so desired.
Jade Buddha Temple is a peaceful and spiritual landmark in Shanghai, known for its beautiful jade Buddha statues and traditional Chinese architecture. Despite being located in a busy city, the temple offers a calm atmosphere where visitors can slow down and feel a sense of serenity. The halls are well maintained, with delicate details and a strong sense of history and devotion. It can get quite crowded, especially during peak hours, but the temple still feels respectful and meaningful. Overall, it is a lovely place to experience Buddhist culture and enjoy a quiet moment away from the city’s hustle.
Beautiful temple located in ShangHai! I fell in love with everything once I got there. The Jade Buddha is so ethereal, you really need to come and visit it once in a life time. Also I found out that there’s many cats living here, such a treasure for me as a cat lover. I might be slightly crowded during the holiday, it’s best to go during the week.
This was my first ever visit to a Buddhist temple. The structure is spectacular and it is a very special experience. People praying to the various Buddha statues.
