Monarch is a fun, intimate bar with a cool two-sided setup. One side features a live DJ and a small dance floor, definitely a lively vibe, just watch out for the step along the wall. The other side is more relaxed, with a bar and seating where you can actually sit and enjoy a drink and conversation. It’s smaller than I expected, but that also gives it a quaint, cozy feel. Great spot if you’re looking for the best of both worlds in a more intimate setting rather than a big, crowded bar.
The basement dance floor was better than I thought. Beautiful young guests, more of an alt crowd. It’s an one of the worst intersections in California regarding homelessness. The upstairs tends to be an older crowd, primarily 30s to 60s and typically has less than a dozen people. It’s pretty dead and small - did not enjoy that.
Monarch is cool. Been to a number of events here (mostly corporate). Drinks are reasonable and the DJs are good. Some interesting entertainment at times including a trapeze swing over the main bar. Multiple rooms lend themselves to the party atmosphere.
Be aware that at least one of the security guards at the door will physically push you without saying excuse me or giving any warning if you're in his way. He is the tall Black security guard at the entrance. He needs a lesson in basic professionalism because instead of placing his hands on someone, he should simply say excuse me.
Not the worst club I’ve ever been to but it wasn’t as cool as I expected lol The first room upstairs with a dance floor was entirely empty, and then there was another room next to that with a dj and a third room with a dj downstairs. The crowd was kind of weird and it seemed a bit dead? Not a lot of people and the people that were there were all older. I went with a friend and we’re both 28 and it seemed like we were the youngest people there. Overall ok but I don’t think I’d go back. Cover was $10 and they have a free Photo Booth. Also the area/neighborhood it’s in is not great.
