Had some high expectations after my wife and I were told by the hostess on her birthday that the restaurant was by reservation only, regardless of being very openly vacant. When we came by for our reservation months later, I had Tapas on my mind, and wished to savor the Spanish flavors in each bite. While the food was yummy, I can’t say I wasn’t left disappointed by the majority of dishes. Not that they tasted bad, but that they were reaching so far into the Californian style of making dishes, that the dish ended up being diluted to %30 Spanish authenticity. The “Spanish” Tortilla on special should be renamed Californian Spanish Tortilla, missing the essence of the rich Spanish flavors, but was still tasteful. Also, the bread with tomato was in a style seemingly foreign to Spain: the tomato was cooked and not already on the bread. My understanding it’s raw tomato ground on a plate with fresh basil. Their quail egg “Diablo” was the perfect combo of California + Spanish flavors, and was well balanced, not just feeling like a Californian blend of ingredients in a Spanish form. Having the authenticity is special for tapas, especially those claiming to be Spanish. Cocktails and wine were delicious, although I would have liked to receive my wine before I had finished my cold appetizers, to pair the Albariño with the white fish. The chicken croquettes and Iberian ham croquettes were amazing, as well as the meatballs of pork&duck. The cream Catalan was very tasty, but also had an un-traditional consistency/texture. In short, while it’s a relaxing spot, with a wonderful waterfront view, expect more of that and less of Spain and you will enough your food and drink!

Food and service were excellent, as always, except for our server Marco. When I made the reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday, I specifically requested a table for 3 with room for a stroller. We came at 1:15pm on a Saturday, and when we arrived the host had set up a spacious 4 top table for us with an ocean view. But as soon as the host left and we settled into our seats, Marco told us that we could not sit here and that this table was reserved (which turned out to be a lie). He instead took us to a small 2 top table. Despite the stellar food, the dishonesty left a bad taste in my mouth. We ordered 7 dishes, including a large paella. There was little space on the table and we had to constantly stop eating to make sure our toddler didn't grab any of the dishes or silverware off the table. Thank you to all the other servers who provided attentive friendly service, who made us feel welcome, and proactively took care of our needs. Multiple other servers checked in with us to take our order, serve us food, refill our drinks, clear our table, bring us the check, and pack our leftover food, even including extra condiments for us to take home. After we were sat in the main dining area, we noticed only one other party sat after us, and when we left the restaurant it was almost completely empty. And the table we were originally sat at was unused for the duration of our meal, which was how we knew that we were lied to. This was one of our favorite restaurants that we've been coming to for years, but it's hard to recommend anymore given the experience we had.

Coqueta is cozy and spacious; interesting combination. Perhaps it’s the combination of tableware, chairs, decor, lighting and staff that makes you feel like you’re home. The tapas/small plates allow you to sample a variety of deliciousness! My favorite dish, both in flavor and presentation, was the patatas bravas, we gobbled them up before any thought of a pic - sorry fans. We never miss a chance to eat here when in San Fran!

Delicious! I will say the portions can be small for the price (I know, it’s tapas. The portions are meant to be small). But the pan con tomate for example is bread with tomato spread. You can give me more than two skimpy slices. Still, the flavors for everything are awesome, and the servers are kind and quick to refill your water. The croquetas de pollo, the huevos nacionales, and the albondigas were my favorite!

Great Spanish tapas and other dishes with amazing views of the bay. The restaurant has a great vibe and the sangrias are awesome. I highly recommend the Croquetas de Pollo, Albongigas à la Feria, and the Huevos Rotos!!
