Great place. Wonderful experience. Impressive collection of arts. But first of ALL... Mascarade. Possibility of dressing in fancy clothes form the epoque and have a great time. Just like in the movie/theater, kings party in some kolind of court.
They recently installed these colorful and absolutely modern bubbles in the middle of the interior courtyard, in a magnificent old site... They so remind me this cult SciFi TV series from 1967 "The Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan (yes, you've guessed right, I'm not young) But this is art, and I won't even dare giving a negative review. Look at the photos and judge for yourself.
Beautiful museum within the archibishop princes palace. The rooms are gorgeous baroque with nothing to envy to Versailles palace. Look the the ceiling stuccos, the ceramic stubes (heating stoves), the gorgeous tapestries and decorations. The audioguide is actually very well done, and if you have time it is worth visiting the museum fully and listen to everything (it would take around two hours). There is also a gallery through the upper part of the cathedral, a terrace overlooking the city as well as some beautiful paintings and artifacts displayed. Definitely worth a visit!
Rezidenzgalerie or Salzburg Galerie is a must! The tour takes you through the sumptuous prince-archbishops apartments with their beautiful tapestries, murals and furniture , galleries of magnificent paintings, back in the history where you meet the rulers of Salzburg and admire amazing objects and find out about their manufacturers. Astonishing, this is the word to define Rezidenzgalerie.
Although there were very nice rooms, especially the private quarters of the archbishop with an amazing Flemish tapestry, the overall quality of the renaissance art was minimal. The best work they had was a Hieronymus Bosch, which was placed in a corner of the upper floors of the cathedral. Rather odd.
