Wow. What a exceptional surprise this place turned out to be. The food is phenomenal. I want to say that they keep it simple, but it would be an understatement to the purity and elegance that the chef treats the cuisine of their home country. This place is first and foremost a true experience to Vietnamese cuisine. The traditional background music to the decor emanates the splendor of what Vietnam has to offer. I was not ready for how impressive the dishes would be or how accurately they would capture the essence of traditional home cooking here. The prices are more in line with elevated comfort and worth every bit. The menu leaves your meal open to your interpretation. Every vegetable, is available to your style of preparation. All proteins are available in various ways. There is a full assortment of desserts and drinks. I recommend making a reservation, as the popularity is evident and securing a table in a timely manner quickly becomes competitive. It is not an exaggeration to say that this place is a must try for visitors to the Saigon area. The quality is stunning.

I loved how it felt like I was stepping into someone’s house to have dinner. This restaurant serves home cooked viet food but also has some elevated elements. We really enjoyed the lemongrass tofu, fried fish with mango, morning glory, and canh chua. I had a Starfruit juice and it was very tasty too. All of the food was delicious, and all of it came out quickly. The server was also super helpful in helping us determine what to eat on the extensive menu. I’d love to come back when I’m HCMC again.

Inside a big home, very homey and rainforest feel. Atmosphere is great. Unfortunately food is quite overrated. No highlight dishes and overall was either too salty, sweet. The crispy rice took over 30 mins to make (we were forewarned) but when it came out it was oily and cold! If you come, recommend to make a booking or you may be seated outside with no air con.

Tucked away on a quiet street in Ho Chi Minh City, Cuc Gach Quan feels less like a restaurant and more like stepping into someone’s nostalgic Vietnamese home. From the moment you walk in, the warm lighting, vintage tiles, reclaimed wood furniture, and leafy courtyard create an atmosphere that is both charming and deeply comforting. The menu celebrates traditional southern Vietnamese cuisine, focusing on home-style dishes made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Standout favorites include caramelized clay-pot fish, braised pork with coconut juice, and sautéed morning glory with garlic. Each dish is beautifully presented yet remains authentic and unpretentious, capturing the essence of Vietnamese family cooking. The flavors are rich, balanced, and clearly crafted with care. Service is attentive without being intrusive. The staff are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations, making the dining experience smooth and welcoming—even for first-time visitors to Vietnamese cuisine. What truly sets Cuc Gach Quan apart is its ambiance. Every corner is thoughtfully decorated with antiques, old radios, and vintage décor that reflect Vietnam’s past. It’s the kind of place where you want to linger over your meal, sip tea, and soak in the atmosphere. Whether you’re a local looking for a comforting meal or a traveler seeking an authentic taste of Vietnam, Cuc Gach Quan delivers a memorable and heartfelt dining experience.
