Renowned for a reason, Braseiro da Gávea is an absolute must-visit when in Rio de Janeiro. We arrived just before opening at 11:30am on Easter Sunday, and there was already a large queue forming. We were lucky to be among the last people seated straight away – around 20 people behind us didn’t get a table. Definitely arrive early if you want to avoid a wait. To start, we tried the sausage brought around the restaurant, which was incredibly flavourful and a great way to begin the meal. For mains, we had the picanha steak à brasileira, served with egg, banana farofa, broccoli rice, and chips. The steak with all the sides is R$250, which is excellent value considering the quality and generous portion size. We also ordered a side salad, which in hindsight wasn’t necessary, as they provide a fresh onion and tomato salsa that works perfectly as a fresh accompaniment. The portion is huge and could easily serve three people – we still couldn’t finish it all. The steak itself was cooked perfectly (medium rare) – tender, juicy, and full of flavour, and the sides were just as impressive. For the full meal, including two waters, a Coke, and service charge, we paid around £51, which felt very reasonable for such a standout dining experience. This was easily one of the best meals we had in Rio – amazing quality meat, excellent cooking, and an incredible, lively atmosphere. By the time we left around 12:30pm, there was a huge queue outside, which says it all. Arrive early and enjoy!

One of my absolute favorites in Rio — 100% recommend! 😍 What an amazing restaurant. The food is cooked to perfection, and the atmosphere is intense and exactly what you’d expect from a place like this — lively and authentic. A true must-try! The farofa de banana was incredible — absolutely loved it! Be prepared to wait around 30–40 minutes; you need to get in line, but you can grab a drink at one of the nearby bars while waiting, which makes it easy.

There was a long queue outside the restaurant, but the wait wasn’t too bad. It was very busy inside, yet the food was served quickly. We started with the sausage (10.5 each), which was delicious. The Picanha, Braseiro style, was flavorful and came in a generous portion. The price felt reasonable for the quality — definitely worth a visit!

Simply perfect meat. Picanha (medium rare), chorizo and pork are to die for, especially for a Canadian not used to Churrascaria style. If you are ordering any of the meats, you don’t really need any sides - no space for sides, it’s too much carne. Great service and atmosphere, except noisy table next to us screaming like hungry seagulls.

Amazing food and amazing service💕Obrigada! Everything was super delicious. We had to wait 30 min to get a table but it was totally worth it😍Very crowded and local people are too loud haha, but this is what makes Rio special🥰🩴
