Honestly, one of the best museums I've been to. I was show at first but it really is worth the expense. It's informative without being overwhelming. It's interesting and interactive with things for kids and adults to enjoy. Be sure to visit the planetarium show, or really is beautiful, thank you guide Gracious for that. Marko was or guide for the initial tour of the museum and that was also excellent. Side note, currently the online tickets are a little less expensive than buying them at the door.
My husband and I enjoy museums and this one was unique. We went through an actual Glacier ice cave replica with real ice, a 3D ride inside a volcano (my husband's favorite), and an aurora borealis show. The rest of the museum had interesting facts about the history of Iceland and the restaurant on the top view had an amazing view of the city. We did have entry tickets in advance with our arrival time selected and I would recommend that if you don't want to wait a long time for the first show. I had my coat and was glad I brought it. The ice cave is -15°C (they do provide warm vests) and the walk up top to see the city was windy but beautiful. Lastly, the trails around the outside of the museum have old bunkers from WWII which were also interesting to see. If you enjoy museums, this one is worth the trip.
The 2 best things about this museum are the lava immersion movie and the glacier cave walkthrough, both are extremely well done. I did enjoy the Aurora show inside the planetarium. But the audio was too loud. The bird wall was interesting to see, and the rooftop deck overlooking the city is worth the visit. The polar bear and Arctic fox are personal favorites. The gift shop has quite an arrangement of gifts and souvenirs, which are not found in other Icelandic tourist shops. I Highly recommend this museum. We spent about 3 hours here in total. The glacier melting film (sped up) was captivating! Wish there was something like this museum in America.
A interesting museum to visit, exploring the different areas with the explanation of volcanos and glacier along with sea creatures and a huge POLAR BEAR!! Even going through a man made ice cave which is very cold so do bring some extra layers. After which we went to the upper floors to enjoy some desserts and relax before continuing on our next journey.
Visiting Perlan was one of the most unique experiences in Reykjavik. The building itself is striking with its glass dome, but what’s inside makes it truly special. The ice cave exhibition is a highlight – walking through a real indoor ice tunnel gives you a glimpse of Iceland’s glaciers in a very immersive way. The Northern Lights show in the planetarium is also impressive, especially if you don’t get a chance to see them in nature. What makes the visit even more complete is the volcano/lava experience, where you learn about Iceland’s powerful volcanic activity in an engaging and memorable way – a great addition that brings the country’s raw nature to life. The observation deck offers one of the best panoramic views of Reykjavik, with mountains, ocean, and the city all in sight – perfect for photos. It’s a bit more on the educational side compared to other attractions, but very well done and interactive. Definitely worth visiting if you want to understand Iceland’s nature while enjoying great views at the same time.
