This was a wonderful last dinner in Reykjavik. It reminds me of eating at a family members house. Everyone was very welcoming and easy to talk to about living in Reykjavik. Everything looked great on the menu but I was recommended to try the Smoked Puffin here from a different waiter in a different restaurant. I was not disappointed!!!

Had an incredible experience at Hereford Steakhouse! The wines were amazing and the food was such a unique experience — getting to try whale steak and puffin was unforgettable. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and overall a really memorable dining experience. Highly recommend!

Food was delicious! The server was on top of things and very friendly. The Taste of Iceland platter was definitely interesting but if it’s your first time in Iceland it’s worth trying. Steak was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth.

We’re visiting Iceland and ate at this wonderful steak restaurant this evening. It has a welcoming ambiance with a modern sophisticated decor. The food was presented well and was cooked to perfection. We had the bbq ribs with baked potato, veg and salad. Clean plates! The service added to our whole experience and made extra special by Hreinn (Mr Clean!) who served us with a smile and banter…. meeting Mr Clean 2!) Thank you so much 😊 We would highly recommend this restaurant 🌟

A bold Icelandic experience—puffin, whale, and a steakhouse worth the visit. After many trips to Iceland, I finally decided to try the famous Puffin & Whale menu at Hereford Steakhouse, a restaurant often recommended by locals as the best place for steak in Reykjavík. Let’s get this out of the way: yes, I felt a little bad. Puffins are cute. Whales are intelligent. But for the sake of cultural experience—and curiosity—I gave it a go. The puffin, served as a starter, had a texture somewhere between chewy duck and salty chicken liver. Not bad, but personally not worth the guilt-to-flavor ratio. Once was enough. The whale, however, was a different story. Served rare (as it should be), it was tender, rich, and surprisingly close to a perfectly cooked steak—just with a mild, oceanic twist. I’d absolutely recommend trying it once, especially if you’re after something uniquely Icelandic and aren’t opposed to the ethics of a single taste. Beyond the adventurous menu, the experience was lovely. The staff was attentive and warm, even joking about our Danish friend who was fashionably late to dinner. Classic Nordic banter. If exotic meats aren’t your thing, don’t worry—they still offer top-tier steaks and more traditional fare. Either way, Hereford is worth a visit. P.S. Skyr cake in this country is ALWAYS divine— save room for dessert!
