Without doubt the best place to have sumptuous dinner in one corner of Reykjavik that has quality, ambience and style. The five course dinner menu was the best we had that included delicious dishes served at the right temperature. The wine and drinks selection is vast and they really know how to serve.
Very delicious place. Halibut and salmon was cooked very nicely, not dry at all and with nice seasoning. Fancy way of presenting the scallops with a very delicious sauce). Sushi were super fresh and delicious as well. For the price seems to be slightly above the average but not too crazy for the Reykjavíka and very large portions.
The Fish Mrkt was the perfect restaurant to celebrate our Anniversary in November. Highly recommend the tasting menu, you will not be disappointed. Each course was delicious and the presentations were well executed. Snorri was our server and was professional and attentive, he helped make our evening special. We will most definitely return the next time we are in Reykjavik.
We didn’t enjoy our experience here. We booked a premium tasting menu for six, but from the moment we arrived, everything felt disorganized. The building has two floors with an entrance in the middle, and there was no staff anywhere to guide guests. We went upstairs on our own, were told we were in the right place, and then left waiting for ten minutes while a server cleaned the bar, with no indication of when we’d be seated. Eventually we went downstairs, where another server told us to go back upstairs so they could check our reservation. After the coat check upstairs, we were sent back down again to finally be seated. Once seated, we were immediately asked whether we wanted the Christmas tasting menu or the premium one, but the explanation was vague — “one extra course and a more premium sushi platter.” Another server eventually clarified the structure of the meal: five rounds (three starters, sushi platter, white fish, red meat, and dessert) and mentioned that the Christmas menu was sweeter. It felt like we had to pull information out of them instead of being guided through the experience. We chose the premium menu and ordered a bottle of wine, but the service throughout dinner felt rushed and careless. The server constantly made mistakes (ie: serving 1 plate per person, then realizing that it should be 1 per 2 people), they also dropped one meat piece on the table from our plate and just took it away like it was nothing with no apologies. They were also rude, because they would throw the plates down the table (not too hard but definitely noticeable) instead of going around and placing it properly. During the sushi phase, we were still eating our meal and there was still food on the shared plate, but the server came to ask if we were done with the food. We had to ask for our wine to be refilled, since they put it somewhere else and don't pay attention our glasses. Out of all the dishes, we only enjoyed their hamachi, cod and the fermented shark. The rest was just so-so. It was a bit weird that the cod was served as one piece to be shaped between two people. We would have expected it to be served as two separate pieces (albeit smaller size). It's ok to be served on the same plate. The desert looked really big and amazing, but it tasted normal. We were not really wow'ed by anything, though we expected much more for the 18k we paid per person (not including alcohol). At one point, they turned the music really loud and it got very noisy and hard to hear. We were rushed to leave at the 2 hour mark, as they said they needed table for the next party. None of us felt that 2 hour was enough for their premium tasting menu. We also didn't feel welcomed at this place. Note: We reserved the place (4 people) at GrillMarket two days ago and went with their tasting menu (13k each person). Actually this was the reason we tried this trading menu, since we had such a great experience there. It was much better, both the service, the atmosphere, and the food was miles apart (4 rounds: 4 starters, 3 middle (fairly large sizes, all amazing taste), 1 main meat (rack of lamb), and deserts (so much better, both presentation and choices)). The portions were more generous, but also more premium than this place. Because of the GrillMarket experience, we honestly can't rate this place high for this type of price and service.
Magdalena was simply wonderful! We did the testing menu and she did an excellent job explaining all of the food and answering our questions! The food was delicious and the scallop with champagne/pickles/wasabi is a can’t miss dish!
