We were recommended to come here by a friend, and are we glad we did. The best steak I have ever eaten. I mean seriously delicious! Everything we had was so indulgent. We had oysters buttery and delicious, scotch fillet, duck fat potatoes and seasonal veggies (brussel sprouts), lime creme brulee and the black forest browned. They were all absolutely delicious and I would eat all of them again. We have heard the lamb shoulder is apparently fantastic but recommended for more than two people. Our server also did an impeccable job explaining everything, I believe her name was Noalia. My only suggestion would be the room we were in was very quiet and was almost perfect but it did get a touch warm in there towards the end of our sitting.
We had a fab experience here. It was too hot in the main restaurant so we sat outside. The interior of the restaurant is lovely, the exterior is basic (maybe some table cloths would be an idea) but it was a lovely evening. Charles took care of us and he was superb. Knowledge, attentive and very friendly. Food is amazing. Especially the starters yum! I had the steak and the other three guests shared the lamb shoulder and it was plenty. You will love it here. Highly recommend it.
We had an unforgettable experience at Botswana Butchery celebrating our wedding with eight guests in one of their in a private rooms. It was absolutely perfect, the food and drinks were incredible - not a single dish missed. The staff were so warm and attentive, especially Thalia, Luke and Charlotte, who made the night feel truly special. Couldn’t recommend it more!
We had a truly wonderful dinner experience. We’d booked 3–4 weeks in advance, and it was absolutely worth it—having a private room to ourselves made the evening feel extra special. James was fantastic throughout the night. He explained the specials, wines, and desserts with so much knowledge and enthusiasm that it really elevated the whole experience. The devilled duck liver was an incredible entrée, and the steak was cooked perfectly. We also tried another dish (can’t remember the exact name), but it was beautifully prepared and packed with flavour. For dessert, we had the crème brûlée along with a pistachio-based dessert—both were absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the meal. Overall, a memorable evening with amazing food and exceptional service. Highly recommend!
We booked a private dining room at Botswana Butchery for the two of us, which was exciting and came at no extra charge. The room was very small and dark, and while it was nice to have the privacy, it did feel a bit claustrophobic. There wasn’t much of a view- just a roof which was mildly disappointing for a restaurant right across from Lake Wakatipu. Service was really slow, with long waits between each part of the meal. By the time the food arrived I was very hungry, which made it harder to fully appreciate it. We had the Royalburn Lamb Loin ($62.95) and the 300g Royalburn Lamb Rack ($78.95), along with sides: salad ($19.95), duck fat potatoes ($21.95), and spiced crab & corn crème brûlée ($18.95). We also ordered a sauce for the rack ($6.95). The food itself was nicely cooked and flavourful. Overall, it was a good meal, but quite expensive for what we experienced. It would likely be best suited to dedicated meat lovers who want a more traditional steakhouse-style experience. I suspect this place is actually really good & that I just am not the target customer.
