A good hostel at an affordable price. Comfortable beds. Well-equipped kitchen. The rooms could be a bit larger, but the large common area makes up for it. The staff was very helpful, especially Nico, the Event Manager. And I was kind of an "annoying customer." I'm a street musician and had my very large music equipment with me, but the staff helped me store it in a safe place where I could access it whenever I needed it.
My friend and I chose this hostel as it had great reviews, but unfortunately we were very disappointed. The hostel had a musty smell to it, especially inside the room. The main bathroom was acceptable hygiene-wise but the separate toilet was disgusting, it looked like it had dried puke all over it and somebody just wiped the seat. The room had no real window, only one leading into the hallway, which made the unpleasant smell worse. Also the booking showed pictures of bunk beds with curtains, but there were no curtains at all! Which is especially concerning when you are two female travelers in a mixed dormitory which has a mid 40 year old man staying in it, who is in the room 24/7, smells and stares at you creepily. Another very old guy (definitely 50+) was staying in our room. In general the hostel was lacking young people, as the mayority seemed old and honestly a bit weird. Not the fun hostel vibe we expected! On top of all that the key card required a 10€ deposit which was "paid back" to me on the last day but never actually arrived back on my account! I emailed about this but i neither got my refund nor a reply yet. Really cannot recommend the hostel! We were glad to leave it... Edit: okay i apologize about the 10€, i checked my account and i was never charged, but the temporary charge was never explained to me. However, the tone of the reply below should tell you everything. I gave an honest review on how my friend and I perceived the hostel and i feel like the reply suggests racism on my part? Or that i am not open minded? The people hanging out in the hostel had a weird vibe, nothing like the open, friendly, young vibe I am used to in hostels, that's all! The mayority of the people staying at the hostel were most definitely not Gen Z during our stay... About the beds: we booked over booking.com and the pictures there for our booking only show bunks with curtains, maybe update the pictures accordingly then instead of blaming us?
It's the best hostel I've ever stayed in. The rooms are too crowded. The bathrooms are cleaned very often, the beds don't squeak, and there are also shared spaces where you can work or relax. The staff are really great. And, best of all, there's a bar in a room where they play live music and where some activities are organised every evening. Fantastic.
I really recommend this hostel, we booked a private room, they gave us the Price Room and the room was amazing, just perfect, very comfy, also there was a kitchen upstairs. I really enjoyed the location close to shops and public transport. By the way, I don’t drink alcohol, none asked me to write a comment for a beer, what I am writing is the true. Also I was super impressed about the level of culture of the place, full of books, pictures, looks like a museum. People who work at the hostel were very friendly, the relation between quality and price was great.
Such a great place! Brix offers different events each night, so you are not going to get bored. The staff is kind and gentle, my special thanks to Aibek, Daysy and Yuri. They got a volunteer team that is awesome, helping around and making you feel welcomed. I highly recommend this hostel!
