I had a wonderful stay at the Alchymist while traveling for work and bringing my husband along to enjoy Prague for the week. From the reservation process through checkout, every interaction with the staff was genuinely pleasant. Radek was especially helpful and made sure everything went smoothly for us. We stayed in a deluxe room that was incredibly comfortable and well decorated. Breakfast each morning was delicious, the spa was relaxing, and the café was a great place to unwind. We also had dinner there one evening and it was exceptional. Václav took great care of us and his wine and food recommendations were spot on. The service across the board really stood out, and it made the whole experience feel special. This will be our first choice for future visits to Prague.
This elegant, historic hotel provides a luxurious and quiet oasis steps away from the excitement (and the teeming throngs) of Mala Strana. Rooms are well appointed and elegantly decorated, with ever amenity included. The property also boasts a lovely shaded courtyard, a coffee shop and a full restaurant providing tasty buffet breakfast and full course dinners. A beautiful spa, including hot tub in the basement rounds out the offerings. Service is excellent across the board; dining staff to bellman and everyone in between was helpful and friendly.
Hotel Alchymist Prague feels less like a hotel and more like a place you truly return to. I have stayed here again and every visit confirms how special this hotel really is. From the moment you arrive, you feel genuinely cared for. This is one of the very few hotels where you are not just a number, but a valued customer. Living abroad and speaking several languages, it is always especially meaningful to come back to Prague and be welcomed by Czech-speaking staff at reception — hearing your own language instantly creates a sense of comfort and home. Breakfast is always a highlight, especially thanks to Věra, whose constant smile and warm attention make each morning start beautifully. The way she looks after guests turns a simple breakfast into a truly lovely experience. I would also like to mention Jarmila G. at reception. When we were checking out and waiting for our pickup, she showed genuine care by making sure we were comfortable, offering us a glass of bubbles, and wishing us a safe drive home, knowing we had many hours of travel ahead. These thoughtful gestures say everything about the level of service at this hotel. As we were leaving, the porter`s genuine smile and kindness were lovely final touch to an already exceptional stay. Hotel Alchymist is a place where luxury is not only found in beautiful interiors, but in the people. A hotel where you feel seen, welcomed, and truly looked after — and one I will always be happy to return to
Do not confuse "Historic" with "Filthy" – A nightmare experience If you want to book it like I did because of the style of it, think again. Your health is more important than looking good in photos. I had a terrible stay at this hotel. I am an experienced traveler living in Europe and I appreciate historic buildings, but this hotel uses "history" as an excuse for poor maintenance and lack of hygiene. The ventilation is as worse as it can be, as it could seriously make people sick. It is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in not only during my stay in Prague but also in the whole Europe. • Hygiene & Health: The room was so small, dusty, dirty it made my skin itch and gave me a rash. I was exhausted and tried to "just deal with it," because I have a morning flight the next morning but I woke up three times in two hours because the air was suffocating and the dust was everywhere (even on the phone). • Facility Issues: The room telephone didn't even work when I tried to call. At 4 AM, I had to use an internet call to reach the front desk because I couldn't breathe in that room anymore. • Comparison: I stayed at The Mozart Prague recently for the exact same price. Both are historic, but The Mozart was spotless. Being an "old" hotel doesn't mean it should be abandoned or neglected. • The Swap: They finally moved me to a different room at 4 AM, which was much better. But even for a standard room, the first one should never have been sold to a guest, and a standard room should be be an excuse to justify why it was dusty and dirty. I feel unsafe and disrespected. I strongly do not recommend this hotel. It was a choice I deeply regret. If you want to book it like I did because of the style of it, think again. Your health is more important than looking good in photos.
While the hotel itself was beautiful, I had an unfortunate experience with the staff regarding our bill at the end. I had originally planned to stay in Prague 2 nights (and we prepaid for these nights) but we decided to extend our stay. At the beginning of our stay, they took my card and charged a fee for incidentals which the receptionist told me would be removed at the end of the stay (close to 200 dollars that remained as a pending charge on my card). Fast forward to the end of the trip- as we were checking out, I paid the difference that I still owed including one room night for our extended stay, 2 massages with tip, and some coffee and cakes from their cafe (approximately $488 in total). I noticed a couple days later that this charge and the incidentals charge had both posted to my account, so I contacted the staff to have the smaller charge removed, as they said it would be. They told me this was not possible and refused to see their error even after several emails and a breakdown of the invoice. I am disappointed with how this was handled because the staff made me feel gas lit even after I went back and totaled everything multiple times with the appropriate currency conversion rates and they refused to admit I had been overcharged.
