One Chun Cafe in Old Town, Phuket is set in a charming, very old building whose vintage ambience makes for a pleasant dining atmosphere. The cafe’s Michelin recognition clearly attracts a steady stream of visitors and tourists, and we sampled an extensive spread to see what the fuss was about. In total we tried 15 of the recommended dishes. Unfortunately, the overall impression was underwhelming. A handful of dishes showed clear care: some were well-seasoned and balanced, and a few plates surprised with nice textures and clean flavors. But most items felt merely competent rather than inspired. Flavors often landed safe and predictable, and there was a notable lack of the punch or inventiveness I expect from a place with Michelin attention. Presentation was tidy and consistent, yet rarely inventive; portion sizes were moderate. Service mirrored the food experience. Staff were polite and efficient, especially during busy periods, but interactions lacked warmth and the personal touches that turn a good meal into a memorable one. Value is mixed: you’re paying a premium compared with typical local spots, and while a few dishes feel worth the price, many do not. If you’re in Old Town and want a comfortable, atmospheric spot to try popular local plates, Wne Chun is worth visiting for the setting and a couple of standout items. If your priority is consistently exceptional food and memorable service, you may find the cafe falls short despite its reputation. No Cards accepted. ONLY CASH 🤯
Now I understand why One Chun Restaurant has been awarded Michelin recognition for so many consecutive years. The restaurant is set in a charming old heritage house, giving off warm granny-house vibes that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Don’t be surprised by the long queue — you’ll be given a number and can wait comfortably inside while they call your turn. The food definitely lives up to the hype. The Thai spicy and sour seafood dish was incredibly fresh, with perfectly balanced flavours that were both tangy and satisfying. The Pad Thai was another highlight, generously loaded with prawns and packed with authentic wok hei flavour. Great atmosphere, excellent service despite the crowd, and truly authentic Phuket cuisine. A must-visit when you’re in Phuket, and worth every minute of the wait!
The food was well worth trying. I ordered one of their signature dishes—yellow curry with fresh crab meat served with noodles. Although I requested a medium spice level, it was quite hot for my taste, so it’s worth being mindful of the spiciness when ordering. I also had a fried mushroom appetizer, which was enjoyable. The passion fruit juice stood out for its well-balanced flavor and creative combinations. Overall, the balance of flavors, particularly the spiciness, was impressive. The total bill was 660 baht.
It was my first time trying pineapple baked rice, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it was pretty good! The deep-fried prawns were nice and sweet, and while the meatballs were a bit spicy, they were still enjoyable. However, it’s tough to find kid-friendly meals here since almost everything is very aromatic and spicy—it would be great if they added a few milder options for children. The service was excellent, but be prepared for a 40-minute wait time!
Excellent restaurant with a great atmosphere in Phuket Old Town. The food was delicious, and the overall experience was very enjoyable. The two dishes in the photo were definitely among the best dishes we tried during our trip. The restaurant is very popular, especially during lunch hours, so I highly recommend making a reservation in advance. Orders may take a little longer during peak times because of the crowd, but the quality of the food and the atmosphere make it worth the wait. Highly recommended if you are visiting Phuket Old Town
