Interesting museum focusing on the history and flora and fauna of WA. There are lots of interactive and audio-visual exhibits. So you could easily spend a morning or afternoon at the Museum. The highlight of my visit in October 2025 was seeing the entrants in the Lester Prize. Multiple or return visits can be made as an annual membership is the same cost as a day General Admission ticket when I visited. Staff and volunteers were welcoming and helpful.
I visited the WA Museum Boola Bardip in the CBD next to the Art Gallery. The building is very beautiful—modern, clean, and well maintained, with good accessibility. However, I found it quite disappointing. Based on what I saw online, I expected animal skeletons and more dinosaur exhibits, but those are no longer there and have been replaced by Aboriginal history and stories. That first section is more engaging and interactive than the rest, which feels quite dense overall. The minerals section is nice and worth seeing, but the cosmos section is very, very poor. The layout can also be confusing, as the maps aren’t not very clear. Entry is $15—still worth a visit, but it didn’t fully meet my expectations.
I visited about two hours before closing, so it wasn’t crowded and I could enjoy the exhibition at a relaxed pace. The displays were very impressive and made me feel as if I had actually traveled to China. The history was explained in detail through videos and exhibits, which made it very interesting. Many of the displayed items were made of precious metals and still shone beautifully, which was hard to believe considering their age. I’d love to come back next time to see the permanent exhibitions as well.
Excellent precinct to see an exhibition. Somewhat difficult access at present with renovations around the museum and library areas. The terracotta warrior display could have run better if people are able to go in and out freely without being in groups. This is done successfully in Brisbane with the Egyptian exhibition. Maybe they could look at this next time.
Checked out the Terracotta Warriors exhibit at the WA Museum and it's — super interesting. They tied everything back to the first emperor of China, his huge ambitions, and the story behind creating an entire underground army. Quick visit, but honestly worth it.
