I had a wonderful experience visiting the Art Gallery of Western Australia. The staff were courteous, welcoming, and professional throughout my visit. I particularly appreciated how politely they asked visitors to leave their water bottles at reception before entering the exhibition spaces, helping to protect the artworks while maintaining a positive visitor experience. The artworks were thoughtfully curated, and I especially enjoyed the exhibition exploring themes of identity and human connection. The collection invited meaningful reflection and offered diverse perspectives that were both engaging and thought-provoking. Overall, it was a well-organized and enriching visit, and I would highly recommend the gallery to anyone interested in art, culture, and contemporary social themes.
A great place located in Perth CBD to learn about and enjoy arts in many different forms. When I was there, they had pottery exhibition by Pippin Drysdale and installations by Paola Pivi. Everything was amazingly wonderful and so colourful. Just being there was a great experience. Moreover they also have a lot of paintings with different stories and information.
Cool contemporary focused gallery. A rich selection of work though not very large. Friendly and informative staff. Some excellent installations and wonderful works by indigenous artists. Worth checking out if you’re in the city- within walking distance from James st strip.
The AGWA offers a world-class cultural experience without the price tag, as general admission is completely free. It’s a space that truly feels like it belongs to Perth, placing a massive focus on local WA talent and First Nations artists, which gives the collection an authentic, homegrown soul you won't find anywhere else. For families, it's a brilliant day out, the Gallery 09 "Re-PLAY" space is a hands-on, interactive heaven for kids that encourages them to actually touch and create art rather than just look at it. Because they rotate through a massive collection of art and bring in fresh exhibitions, it genuinely feels like a different gallery every time you walk through the doors. I highly recommend a visit 👌
It's controlled chaos with a backbone. Picture something between an art installation and group therapy where nobody's pretending to have it together. Vulnerability isn't just tolerated, it's the whole point, and it's treated almost reverently and irreverently at the same time. The painful stuff gets reworked into something you can actually sit with, something that's somehow playful without cheapening what it cost. Dense, loud, raw, but deliberate about all of it. Keep the surrounding context close when you enjoy looking at them, because the tone carries a lot of the meaning.
