The original takoyaki Aizuya is credited for inventing would look dismal if you are accustomed to takoyaki topped with katsuo flakes dancing on a bed of mayonnaise, takoyaki sauce, and aonori seasoning. Eating it is like having pancakes without any syrup, butter, jam, or whipped cream - the pancake is tasty but you feel discontented because there is something missing. It was a good experience discovering for ourselves how the first takoyaki tasted like while also paying tribute to the creator of takoyaki. But takoyaki has evolved with the times and there are now more mouthwatering and flavorful options that keep customers coming back for more.
This is a historic Osaka takoyaki shop that represents the region's takoyaki culture, and what I like most about it is that it doesn't have any sauce. I ate takoyaki from a shop with a similar philosophy when I was little, so the taste is familiar to me. Although the portions are a little small, they are easy to eat, and because there are no unnecessary flavors, you can enjoy the taste of the octopus itself. Also, the original radioyaki is not made with octopus, but rather with the seasoning of the tendon, which goes really well with it.
Those who love crispy snacks will absolutely adore these! They're delicious even without any sauce! The four different kinds are a great way to try a variety, so I highly recommend them!
The shop is located inside TAKOPA, a takoyaki museum in Universal CityWalk, where takoyaki shops gather and compare flavors. I ordered: 4-kind radio platter (16 pieces) ¥1,300 8 single pieces (green onion and Worcestershire sauce) ¥680 Large draft beer ¥900 Mega chuhai ¥800 [Total ¥3,680] This time, I didn't go to Universal Studios Japan, but instead went to Universal CityWalk for dinner since it was close to my hotel. I'm always tired from walking around Universal Studios Japan, so I never stop by CityWalk, so for the first time, I took my time exploring CityWalk! One place I really wanted to go was TAKOPA at the Takoyaki Museum. While waiting in line, I decided to try the original takoyaki! First up was the 4-kind platter: Original Takoyaki, Beef Tendon Radioyaki, Octopus Cheese, and Green Onion Takoyaki. All of them were really small. Maybe I had too high expectations for authentic takoyaki... The flavor was bland. Seriously, I thought Nagoya's soy sauce takoyaki would be much better without the sauce. /(-_-)\Sorry^^; The green onion bukkake had too little sauce, so it only tasted like green onion. I wish they'd poured more sauce on it, since they didn't need the container. The chuhai, too... I left half of it.^^; I really love takoyaki with a generous amount of sauce, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside!♡m(_ _)m Universal CityWalk was so much fun!❣️ It was so cold that I could only compare two places, so I'd like to try some other places again!❣️ Thank you for the meal!( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
The portions may look like a lot, but they're small so you can eat a lot. There are takoyaki, which you eat without any sauce, and radioyaki, which has beef tendon instead of octopus. The takoyaki had a simple, easy-to-eat flavor with a dashi stock taste, even without sauce. The radioyaki had a strong flavor and was also very delicious. I almost wanted to have a second helping of this alone.
