We tried the summer menu (courses), and overall they’re pretty good. Not a fan of the pumpkin cold soup so get that only if you do like pumpkin imo. I love mushrooms so the mushroom dishes were great! Chocolate ice cream also tasted great and smooth. The restaurant vibe is quiet and relaxing. Love the traditional seating area. I’d recommend for first timer and if you’re curious about vegan Korean food. Would I come back? Yes but I would probably just order from their regular menu and try their hot soup dishes.

Finding a plant-based Korean restaurant is unique enough, but Hangawi really takes it to the next level. The food was delicious, and the Soju cocktails were unusual and tasty! For a party of 3, we ordered dumplings, 2 appetizers, and two entrees. We particularly enjoyed the spicy tofu and the dumplings. We tried the blueberry cheesecake, and the level of sweetness was just right. The service was great, and the staff was very understanding of our time constraint due to a show we were going to post dinner. They made sure to tell us which dishes would take longer to prepare, so we could make educated choices.

This restaurant is an absolute gem and one of its kind. Having a vegan Korean restaurant in the city is truly a blessing and the food, experience, and staff here are all truly exceptional. We tried the emperors mini lunch menu that includes a soup, appetizer, entree, and dessert and it was so worth it! It was a great way to try a little bit of everything and the portions were very substantial. All of the food tasted so fresh, flavorful, and packed with vegetables. I loved the pumpkin porridge, sweet corn soup, and rice cakes. Both the stuffed mushrooms and combination rolls were delicious and so unique. Soy chocolate ice cream for dessert was light and tasty. Lastly, it’s so wonderful sitting without shoes in the cozy environment and heated floors. Would absolutely come here and again and it’s now one of my favorite spots!

The food here was great! We ordered the spicy cauliflower bites, mushroom stone bowl rice with black truffle paste, and rice cakes, and we really liked everything we tried. Each dish was flavorful and well prepared. The restaurant also has a cool vibe, and the concept of sitting on the ground to eat adds a unique and fun touch to the dining experience. Overall, a great spot for both the food and the atmosphere.

I recently visited Hangawi and had such a unique and memorable experience. We chose the traditional floor seating option, which instantly made the evening feel special and immersive. It was a fun way to enjoy the meal and really added to the authenticity of the experience. From the moment we walked in, the service stood out. The attendants kindly took our shoes and jackets, which felt incredibly thoughtful and welcoming. The servers were attentive and patient, taking the time to explain the menu in detail and answering all of our questions with care. The cauliflower bites were absolutely amazing and easily my favorite dish of the night. They were packed with flavor and had the perfect texture. The dumpling soup was also comforting and delicious, making it another highlight of the meal. The pancakes, however, were not as appealing to me. I usually enjoy seafood pancakes, and since this is a fully vegan restaurant, I understand the limitation. That said, I felt the flavors could have been a bit more innovative or bold, as they came across slightly bland compared to the other dishes. The plant based Korean bulgogi stone bowl rice was excellent. It came with kimchi, spicy sauce, and a milder sauce, and everything together was flavorful and satisfying. Each bite felt well balanced and thoughtfully prepared. Overall, Hangawi is a lovely place to visit at least once or twice, especially if you want to experience traditional Korean floor seating in a calm and beautifully maintained setting. It is more than just a meal, it is an experience.
