Really good food. A local gem. The atmosphere is very casual. If you want to order food and alcohol you go in one line and if you just want food you stand in another line. If you just want to drink you can go directly inside and order alcohol at the bar. This feels like a local spot that got discovered and is now a hot commodity & a must see experience if you’re in New Orleans. You can take the cable car/trolley if you want that experience, too.
Great customer service Pete, and Eric was so nice. Very friendly both of them. I really appreciate them telling me a little bit about the history of the restaurant. Thank you Pete, and Eric. The food was amazing had the James brown and sweet potatoes fries. Both was amazing. Parking is great here as well. Would definitely come back.
Great food and generous portions! Initially, I planned to give 3 stars for service and atmosphere, but the team actually did a fine job. I ordered the classic wild-caught shrimp po' boy sandwich, fully dressed. As a local, people say that no matter where you are from, you expect the same high standard. They definitely delivered. The amount of shrimp they included was impressive—they do not hold back on the portions! I come from a place where we do not eat much seafood, but these shrimp were incredibly fresh and did not have any unpleasant fishy smell. The overall quality was excellent. I paired the sandwich with their BBQ sauce. While I am not usually a big fan of that specific flavor profile, it was still good. A few hours later, I realized I only used about 5 or 6 dips of the sauce, which makes me wonder why they charged $3 for it on the side. I actually regret not bringing the leftover sauce back with me to use for cooking at home! Despite the pricey sauce, it was a great experience. I will definitely be back again. Thank you for the great food—I highly recommend this.
Hopped on the streetcar from the French Quarter (about 30 minutes on the Canal line) and made my way to Parkway Bakery & Tavern in Mid-City for some classic New Orleans po’boys. Totally worth the easy ride! I went with the fried shrimp and roast beef — and the fried shrimp was the clear winner for me. The shrimp were perfectly fried: crispy, juicy Gulf shrimp piled high on that fresh, soft bread. Great flavor and satisfying crunch without being greasy. The roast beef was solid too — tender, flavorful, and messy with the gravy — but the shrimp edged it out this time. Both came fully dressed and were plenty filling. I also tried the Porch drink — light, citrusy, and super refreshing on a warm day. Perfect cool-down while waiting for the order. No fried oysters available that day (they’re often a mid-week thing usually Wed/Thurs), which was a little disappointing since they’re a highlight here, but it just means I’ll be back soon. Parkway has that great neighborhood tavern vibe and delivers reliably tasty po’boys. The shrimp one stole the show for me. If you’re in the French Quarter, the streetcar ride makes it a fun, low-key adventure.
I didn’t have high expectations for po’ boys since I had one in my hometown once and it was just fine but Parkway Bakery & Tavern made me reconsider my opinion on it. We ordered it dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayo. We got the Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp Po’ Boy and the Alligator Smoked Sausage Po’ Boy. It was fully loaded with shrimps that were tender and succulent with a thin, crunchy outer coating. The alligator sausage was mixed with other meat so you couldn’t taste specifically the alligator (low in fat type of meat) but it was umami and spiced nicely. We thought the Banana Pudding was an enjoyable, light dessert.
