5 stars all around! Food, service, ambiance - all spot on for the vibe of New Orleans. My server was great! I was undecided on what to eat and a solo traveler. He said well then you have to order the Coop's Taste Plate. I'm so glad I took his advice. Everything was phenomenal!! The gumbo is spicy but in a good spicy way, not the burn three layers off your tongue spicy. I am not a big fried chicken fan but ate it and loved it! So tender and crispy. Coop's is a must for anyone visiting New Orleans. Note: there's construction on the street but you can still get to Coop's on the sidewalk.
This place is small but busy because it is literally a bar. Explains why 21 and under are not allowed. It only has a couple of tables. Supposedly known for Jambalaya. Cajun fried chicken- delicious. Highly recommended Cajun pasta - not bad Jalapeño poppers - not bad Gumbo - not bad Chicken Tchoupitulas - everything was good except the chicken. Chicken was overcooked and dried, totally ruined the whole dish. Jambalaya- rice was mushy, more like a porridge. This is supposed to be their know dish but it was disappointed. Desserts: This is a bar so no, desserts are not available here. Sadly, Cleanliness is in question as all foods coming out of the kitchen passed through a hallway that has garbage cans lined up on one side and washrooms on the others.
Coop's Place is a small, easy-to-miss alleyway bar that you can find right beside the French Market. It's a casual spot with a genuinely good vibe and serves up some excellent food. I had the jambalaya here, and it was mighty good, packed with flavor and just the right amount of spice. The bartenders are nice, adding to the easygoing atmosphere. A crucial tip for visiting is that this is the kind of classic New Orleans bar that serves great food, but it is primarily a small, casual space. If you're looking for quality local food in a chill, slightly hidden spot, Coop's Place is a definite win.
While its in a kind of sketchy area. It was well worth it. We were told that the staff would "roast" you, but our waiter was awesome! Amazing food, especially the fried chicken. I definitely give it a solid 10 out of 10!
this was a must for me, the only place i wanted to eat in the quarter, and with French Fest going on I thought we'd have a hard time getting in on a Thursday night, but I think the construction blocking off the street in front may have been our saving grace, because we walked in and sat down at the bar right away. they told us the credit card machine was down and luckily we had some cash on us. the bartender was a rambunctious fellow, who told us what to order and we took his word for it. I had the redfish something and my wife had a chick dish. they were excellent and we loved the people watching. this place lived up to our pre-trip hype and we highly recomend it over any of the boujee places that require coats and formal attire.
