You’d never find it with the naked eye but Salon Salon is tucked deep into the back of an alleyway off Carondelet Street. The entrance is nice with an overhead and plants lining the walk down into the lounge. Once you’re in you’re greeted by a hostess, who was actually a bit snarky and rude when seating us for our reservation (also said by another guest we spoke to). The actual space itself is moody, dimly lit with red accents throughout. It has a polished feel and the environment is incredibly intimate. Our waitress was very nice and made ordering with a party of 10 seamless. For our order we got a banana Negroni and a glass of white wine. The wine was great, crisp and sweet. The Negroni was strong and bold with the banana peeking through the drink with flavor. They also offer a few bites off their menu but we opted not to grab one there. The whole experience was fun and everyone liked their drinks. It’s a great place to relax and get some drinks but the experience with the hostess was a bit off-putting. A great option if you’re looking for a quiet, more refined cocktail lounge to enjoy a drink in NOLA.
I simply stumbled across Salon Salon online and I'm so glad I did! We showed up from the sidewalk entrance without reservations and only had to wait under maybe five minutes to be seated due to upcoming reservations. The atmosphere was moody, enticing, and decadent and the staff was all very friendly and helpful. The host was accommodating and warm while the bartender was clearly a professional and pleasant to chat with. I had a Daisy Chain off the house cocktail menu, which was perfection, and the pork rillettes. It was a great experience and only a couple of minutes away so we will definitely be back!
Salon Salon is undeniably beautiful. The space is stunning, thoughtfully designed, and creates a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match the aesthetics. We had a reservation for 6:30 and arrived at 6:35—just five minutes later—but the host immediately made an issue of it and came across as rude and unwelcoming. What made the interaction even more surprising was that the place was nearly empty when we arrived. While the setting was gorgeous, the service left a lot to be desired. The caviar was also disappointing and tasted cheap, especially considering the upscale image and pricing. Also the menu said choice of chips however all we had a choice of was Doritos. I love Doritos but as we we’re having caviar service I just felt like there should’ve been an option here. I had high expectations based on the ambiance, but the hospitality and quality of the food didn’t live up to them. I will say our waiter was so incredibly sweet. A beautiful space can only go so far. I left wishing the experience had matched the elegance of the venue itself.
The drinks were $18+, but pretty sub-par. Ordered a Hemingway Old Fashioned and the ice was regular cubed bar ice (sorry but for a ~$20 craft cocktail I expect whiskey ice). So in addition to it being very sweet, it was also very watered down. The espresso martini was also meh, the drink garnishes for both cocktails was embarrassingly mediocre. Ambiance was nice enough, but they were super picky about where they’d let us sit. We were told parties of 2 weren’t allowed to sit in the “lounge areas” besides the shared couch spaces or the cafe tables, which is fine… except it wasn’t even busy or full and it was a Monday night so it felt odd they were being so picky about where we sat. The general atmosphere felt like a high-end cocktail bar, but unfortunately the drinks were low quality and not worth the exorbitant price point. Save your money and go somewhere else.
ND drink was wonderful a little heavy on the syrup but it melted and was amazing! Wagu burger and fries very delicious! Server was confused.
