I loved this hostel. I am generally new to solo traveling an staying in hostels, only been to 6 others, so don't have a lot to compare against, but I loved the vibe. The two staff members Tyler and Felipe were so kind and nice. Genuinely made us all feel so welcome! 10/10 would stay here again if I visit NOLA in the future. The location is fantastic as well, one tram ride away from French Quarters (20 min). There's decent food, coffee, and alcohol stores nearby. Cleanliness was really good! Bathrooms were great, rooms were clean and nice. Beds were a LITTLE creaky so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper and get bothered by people moving around at night. I sleep like a truck so didn't mind. It is also a well planned hostel layout IMO. The TV room and backside courtyard were so conducive to socialization. The daily 8PM activities hosted by the staff were always so fun and helped us all form connections. I genuinely felt sad leaving and flying back
Well located and comfortable and a great value. I stayed here 2 nights while in town for a birthday and it was a great base. Didn't feel unsafe at all and my private room was clean and comfy with a nice view of Downtown. I didn't take part in any of the events but I saw good crowds hanging out in the courtyard and going out as a group so if you like that sort of meeting people at a hotel thing this feels like a great option. Will remember this for future trips.
First time hostel user, life long convert. Booked on hostelworld.com and got a bed in a 8 person dormitory with a communal bathroom. The linens were clean, the guests, both polite and diverse, but the big sells are the locaction and staff. The big sell its only 3 minutes from the trolley that runs right to bourbon st and the warehouse/garden district. Felipe, the manager who checked me in was charming and informative. He, Ana, and Cam all collectively gave personalized reccomendations, directions, and even escorted guests to their desired activity when convienent. Every night, there was a Hostel mixer/game night to facilitate the sense of community. Like I said, first time user, life long convert.
I unfortunately only stayed for one night, so I did not get to experience Auberge to its fullest, but in my short time, I was really impressed. The hostel is in a great, ideal location in the Lower Garden District, which allows for easy traveling and the street itself was easy for pickup/dropoff. Many cool things to do nearby and locals assured me it’s one of the safer spots in NOLA. Obviously always be aware of surroundings and travel in groups, if possible, but the area around Auberge felt safe and well lit to me as a solo traveler. The hostel itself is beautiful- an older house with a beautiful staircase and has all necessary amenities, like a full kitchen and courtyard. Good atmosphere, easy after hours check-in, people from all walks of life, and above and beyond staff.. I wasn’t expecting to stay an extra night in NOLA but my hotel I was staying at was booked. Auberge had a room open, but I did not realize there would be so many stairs and no elevator… thankfully fellow guest helped me up one flight and Felipe was a lifesaver bringing my bag down both the next morning when I was worried about a potential flare up. He also let me keep my luggage there after checkout so I didn’t have to haul it all around NOLA. Super appreciated! I also appreciated that, when I first arrived, one of the guests saw me but didn’t let me in because of the safety policy! When I had to do the same thing, an incoming guest was not so happy, but I hope he understood after checking in and seeing the rules too, haha. There are also cameras everywhere. The room I stayed in was a private suite on the top floor, the only one that wasn’t shared/group sleeping quarters. The room is no frills and had the essentials, even cuter and cozier when you turn off the big scary overhead lights :) It was generally quite clean! There was a small desk, couch, private bath, as well as air conditioning and a fan. The only things I highly recommend changing are to 1) please add a peephole on the door to the single for safety and security, especially as a solo traveler alone on that top floor. It was a bit eery based on layout. 2) Allow the upstairs guest to adjust the a/c in their room without bothering the staff about it. It was just hard because it is right above the bed and was kicking really hard/loud, so I asked for it to be turned down a bit, but it was turned off and very hot without any a/c at all.. it would have been much easier to be able to just turn it down by 2-3 degrees. The cost for a simple bed or shared suites are excellent and super affordable. The price for the private room was a bit too high in my opinion, but I did pay through third party ($120~ via Expedia) which likely increased the price a bit and it was still lower in price than hotels in the nearby vicinity. Great location in the Lower Garden District and many people told me it was a pretty safe area. All in all, I would really recommend Auberge. If you are a solo traveler or with friends and you are extroverted and/or love meeting new people, this is really the perfect space for you. There are nightly group events, so you will always have folks to pregame and go out with, which is pretty awesome. I would rate Auberge a 4/5 if it were just based on the room quality and price, but instead rate it a 5/5 due to the friendly atmosphere and super helpful staff. Thanks so much again!!!!
Definitely come here if you want to meet friendly people and socialize!! So easy to meet others at their nightly patio hang!! Beds were clean and comfy, and the bathrooms were clean despite the older facilities. I loved how they had plenty of clean washcloths available for use. Felt safe and fun here as a solo female traveler!! Owner and staff are amazing and friendly!! DEFINITELY a place to return to 😁
