Have to say that it has been an awe-inspiring experience to set step into this chapel museum. Not very large, but all the statues, sculptures and paintings inside the premise make you hold your breath and your eyes are glued to them. For the time being, photo taking inside during the tour visit is not allowed, but people are given a special QR code to download pictures.
Brilliant amazing display of the arts through the history of Italy Make sure you got to the second floor as well Enjoy
The experience was extremely disappointing. In my humble opinion, Sansevero is vastly overrated, and I would not recommend it to anyone. Several practical issues made the visit frustrating. There was no working internet connection inside: the thick walls of the building block mobile signal entirely, which is understandable. However, I spent around ten minutes trying to connect to the advertised free Wi-Fi as an alternative, to no avail. This mattered because my elderly parents do not speak English, and I needed to translate the information for them. When I asked a staff member why the Wi-Fi network was visible but non-functional, the response was that they themselves do not use it — because it simply does not work. If that is the case, why advertise it at all and waste visitors' time? As for the five or more staff members present throughout the chapel — their sole apparent function was to ensure that no one takes a photograph. One wonders whether their energy might be better spent on, say, making the Wi-Fi work. One final note: after the visit, I received an email inviting me to leave a review. One of the questions asked what I liked most about the chapel — with no option to indicate that I did not enjoy it at all. A survey designed to solicit only positive feedback says quite a lot about the establishment's attitude toward honest visitor experience.
Its so beautiful inside, and now they have a showing of Leonardo da Vinci Codex (3pages but still very rare to see)
The Veiled Christ sculpture is without a doubt the most impressive. The way the marble looks like a delicate, transparent veil over Jesus is unbelievable. I honestly couldn’t believe it was carved from a single block of marble. It’s one of the most beautiful and emotional pieces of art I’ve ever seen. The other piece that really stood out to me was the one with the marble net (Il Disinganno). The fine detail in the net is just mind blowing. Although the chapel isn’t very big, every part of it is full of intricate art and symbolism. I do wish we could take photos, but I also understand why it’s not allowed, it helps you focus more on the moment. Highly recommend booking in advance, as it can get very crowded. But it’s 100% worth visiting!!
